A 46-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly signing for a package that contained 43 pound of marijuana. Carla Ockart pleaded innocent to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute on Friday and bail was set at $50,000 cash.
Prosecutors said the package was detected by drug-sniffing dogs at a United Parcel Service facility in Warwick, R.I. on Thursday. Police allegedly opened it found it was marijuana with a street value of $200,000 and then an undercover officer delivered it Friday to Ockart, who was the addressee. Ockart's attorney, Gerald Roque of Foxboro, said his client had no criminal record and the bail requested was excessive. Roque said Ockart had exercised her right to ask for a bail reduction hearing, which would be held Monday in Superior Court. ''There was no evidence that the commonwealth showed that she was part of any drug ring or that she knew what was in the package. The only thing she did was sign for the package,'' he said. ''I guess you and I could sign for a package and if it happened to have marijuana in it, we might be held on $50,000 bail,'' he said. Attleboro, Mass.
