Medina, Ohio! Two area high school parking lots were swept for drugs yesterday and officers said they confiscated drug paraphernalia and substances that appear to be Marijuana!
MEDINA - Two area high school parking lots were swept for drugs yesterday and officers said they confiscated drug paraphernalia and substances that appear to be marijuana.Medina police conducted two two-hour drug sweeps of vehicles in parking lots used by Medina High School students, teachers and visitors as well as parking lots surrounding the Medina County Career Center, said Medina police Sgt. Ron Stollar.The sweeps began around 8:30 a.m. and took place simultaneously, Stollar said.There were no arrests yesterday but charges may be forthcoming, said Stollar.The searches were limited to parking lots outside the schools. Of the 525 cars checked at Medina High school, drug-sniffing dogs reacted to five cars.Of those five, police believe they recovered drugs from two of them. The other three had what appeared to be a drug odor or drug residue, said Stollar.At the career center, drug paraphernalia and substances that appear to be marijuana were taken from 11 vehicles. About 350 vehicles were checked.After running the license plates and learning the identities of the drivers of the five cars at the high school, the drivers were called outside to open their cars for a search, said Stollar.He said police had planned the sweeps for months.Linda Ocepek, the high school principal, said the sweep is a welcome tool in the fight against drugs. "Evidence taken from the students' cars will be sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation for testing. The results should be back in two to four weeks.
