U.S. Border Patrol agents say nervous-acting drivers lead them to confiscate more than 200 pounds of Marijuana at U.S.-Mexico border checkpoints.
Authorities said 30-year-old Javier Zarate-Ruiz shakily handed agents at the Highway 86 checkpoint an unreadable immigration document this week. While checking to see if the papers were valid, an agent noticed the gas tank on the man's car had been tampered with. A dog trained to detect drugs was brought in, and authorities found some 60 pounds of marijuana stashed in the tank on Tuesday. Just an hour earlier, at the same checkpoint, 26-year-old Carlos Antonio Carruth of El Centro was stopped by Border Patrol agents for his nervous demeanor. Agents discovered 50 pounds of marijuana hidden in his car trunk. When Jose Aguirre-Garcia, 47, of Traver, tried to pass through the same checkpoint on Sunday, his agitation wasn't the only clue that he might be hiding something. Authorities said his car was sagging low to the ground from the weight of 28 marijuana bundles in the trunk. The drugs weighed in at 71 pounds. Later that day, agents stopped Alfred Breceno Zarate, 41, of Calipatria, and his passenger, David Allen Zarate, 27, of Niland, at the Border Patrol checkpoint on Highway 111 near Niland. The men appeared nervous when asked about their citizenship and the drug-detecting dog was summoned. The dog alerted agents to 25 pounds of marijuana hidden in the trunk and in the front end of the car. All of the suspected smugglers were arrested on drug charges and their cars impounded, authorities said.

Hi! I am a explorer with the Port Isabel station. I was wondering if both your explorer post and ours could get together and talk about adventures we've had. Because anyways we are one huge family. I would really appreciate it if we did, it would be fun and interesting.
