Denver, CO -- An 11-member review panel will be set up to monitor marijuana possession cases under a ballot measure approved by city voters.Initiated Question 100 passed with 57 percent support on Tuesday. It directs law enforcement to make marijuana possession the “lowest law enforcement priority”.
The measure requires that the panel meet quarterly and report on marijuana arrests and prosecutions. Mayor John Hickenlooper has said he will comply with the measure but hasn’t decided who will be appointed. The group must include a member of the City Council and a representative each from the police department and the city attorney’s office. Criminal defense lawyers and residents must also serve on the panel. The initiative was backed by Safer Alternative for Enjoyable Recreation, which sponsored a 2005 ballot proposal legalizing possession of less than an ounce of marijuana for adults over 21. Denver voters passed that too but the move failed to blunt arrests because authorities continued to enforce state laws against possession.Source: Associated Press (Wire)Published: November 11, 2007Copyright: 2007 Associated Press Related Articles & Web Site:Safer Denverhttp://www.saferdenver.com/Mellowing Out on Marijuanahttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread23465.shtmlDenver Poised To Make Marijuana a Low Priorityhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread23456.shtml

Denver
Good on ya, Mason, SAFER, and the voters of Denver!John Tyler, you said:Maybe when the Democratic convention comes to town the representatives will see and understand how nice a cannabis tolerant city can be, and is nothing to be afraid of, and take that idea back home with them. That will be a great lesson to take home!

And this is awesome
US CA: Column: Is the SFPD Able to Recruit Enough Officers? Just Say No.Pubdate: Sun, 11 Nov 2007Source: San Francisco Chronicle (CA)http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v07/n1298/a02.html?397-0-The prohibitionists are not going to be ABLE to keep confronting responsible cannabis users. So when the mayor of bumfuckamerica is mandated (or womandated) (or even manhandled) to stop arresting cannabis users, in the back of their mind they must equate that with relief.

Set up the panel, baby.
I thought they said this election wouldn't make a difference.According to the headline, there is going to be a difference. My guess is that if voters are ignored there will be further activism to help.-0-This article is also in My local paper; The Summit Daily News in the Breckenridge, Frisco, Dillon, Arapahoe Basin Ski resort and Keystone areas... about 70 miles west of Denver in the HIGH country.http://www.summitdaily.com/article/20071111/NEWS/111110077"City must set up panel to review marijuana cases"-0-Also, did everyone see this headline over at MAP?"US CO: Denver Did It - Could Telluride Legalize Marijuana?"http://www.mapinc.org/drugnews/v07/n1300/a09.html?397-Denver's move is encouraging.-It's THE bandwagon.

I thought the whole ballot dropoff/mail-in
may have resulted in some voter fraud from the opposition.
In the end even LEO's were counting the winning ballots :)

Denver is nice
I live outside of Denver, see parts of it from my windows and deck...Honestly, I didn't think this measure would pass even though we did go to the recent support event/concert where Tvert was in attendance. I'm glad to be suprised and still glad to live near such a progressive city.-TM
