The event's promoter, Jeremy Briggs, said it is just common sense to legalize a plant with so many benefits.Hemp can be used to make textiles and paper and grows in abundance, Briggs said. Though illegal in the U.S., Briggs said other countries export hemp products here. "It's a billion dollar market here in the U.S. and our farmers should be getting a chance to get a piece of that pie," he said.Vendors at the hoedown sold products containing hemp - including beer.Briggs said it is a common misperception that the event is "a big hippie pot fest."He said his group hopes to use the festival's proceeds to get a medical marijuana petition on next year's ballot.Source: Associated Press (Wire)Published: May 8, 2005Copyright: 2005 The Associated Press CannabisNews Hemp Archiveshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/list/hemp.shtml Home Comment Email Register Recent Comments Help Comment #3 posted by afterburner on May 11, 2005 at 07:11:57 PT Check Out Herbie the Global Marijuana March Mascot Herbie http://gallery.marihemp.com/mmmbannersflyers/herbie_3d30KBAnd the other flyers http://gallery.marihemp.com/mmmbannersflyersPhotos, posters, flyers, banners, videos http://gallery.marihemp.com/mmm [ Post Comment ] Comment #2 posted by eco-man on May 09, 2005 at 18:22:36 PT MMM 2005 world map and city list.
