Eight people shaken up by a push-in robbery at a Brooklyn bong factory were busted yesterday after cops arrived and found them all smoking Marijuana, police said.
"We came here looking for victims and made arrests instead," said Detective Capt. Vito Spano, who added that the robbery may have been an inside job.The crime scene was a rented loft at 248 Flushing Ave. in Fort Greene where customized glass pipes and bongs are made, and marijuana was grown, cops said.A pair of masked gunmen barged in behind a propane deliveryman around noon yesterday. Using duct tape, they tied up the deliveryman and eight people working inside, and fled with cash and drug paraphernalia, police said. The deliveryman managed to free himself, dash outside to a nearby Emergency Medical Service station and call 911.The other victims also got loose and, unaware that the deliveryman was calling the cops, lit up joints to calm their jittery nerves, police said. "They were openly smoking pot when the police entered," said Detective Joseph Pentangelo, a police spokesman.Cops recovered about 25 pounds of marijuana in the loft and also seized drug paraphernalia. The deliveryman was not involved in the illegal operation, police said. Police said the propane was used in the glass-blowing process. The pipe makers used a Web site called "kissmyglass.com" to peddle their psychedelic-colored wares.Several of the suspects are students at the Pratt Institute in downtown Brooklyn, police said.
