The rush is on to portray pot as just another recreational drug that may actually have some desirable medicinal value.Even the prestigious Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science seems to have joined the pro-pot parade.
Press coverage of the study, which documents some reasonable medical uses for marijuana while minimizing almost all the risks, has been so uniformly upbeat that one could easily overlook the fact that pot can be, and often is, a gateway to hell for teens and even pre-teens.What do you think of teens and drugs?

Gateway to Hell or Seeing the World Through Fear?
More than one study has been done over the past 30 years, that are constiant in findings. Marijuana is not a gateway drug and is not highly addictive. These myths continue to persist since public policy in this area because of fear and parinoia. If accurate statistics described the level of real crime, like murder, rape, assualt, carjacking, and the like, and linkage demonstrated they might have something. Not the case, are we to believe that if someone smoked pot and talked phlosophy with their friends is worthly of being declared enemy of society. The problem is that the policy is not one of reason but one of fear. The public mind must despense with myth and examine situations as they exist and not with pre-concieved ideas. A reasonabe person will read a book before judging it. General Barry McCaffery, the drug czar went to the Netherlands a short time ago. He had an opportunity to visit a coffee shop where marijuana is sold and even used, you know to learn, better ones level of understanding about an issue, he declined because there was nothing for him to learn. Rep. Bob Barr (R-Ga.) and Rep. Bill McCullum (R-Fla.) seem to have the same attitude. Fear and ignorance are doing more damage citizens of this country than damage caused by this drug.

Gateway to hell?
Saying things like marijuana is the gateway to hell to kids is really wrong because when they try pot and it isn't what "they" say it is, then they'll say they probably lied about other drugs too! That is the gateway effect, I believe!

Gateway to hell?
The "gateway" drugs have always been alcohol and tobacco, and the IOM report stated that there is nothing fundamental about the effect of pot that causes users to want to try hard drugs. All the laws in the world won't stop youthful experimentation. They will just put otherwise law-abiding citizens in jail.
