Atlantic Technology Ventures, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATLC) announced today that it has been working with the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) a world leader in medical chemical defense research. As part of this effort, Atlantic has been supplying CT-3, a synthetic derivative of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana, to USAMRICD for testing. "Based on our understanding from conversations with the Army scientists, they're pleased with CT-3's performance in in vitro studies, and have informed us of their intention to move forward with replication of the results and in vivo studies," commented Fred Zotos, President and CEO of Atlantic.
"We're very encouraged by the Army's decision to promote CT-3 to further research and development, and see this as one more indication of its broad therapeutic potential in treating a wide variety of medical conditions."About U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense (USAMRICD) The USAMRICD is a world leader in medical chemical defense research. The USAMRICD's mission is to protect the warfighter by timely provision of medical countermeasures. Medical chemical countermeasures protect the warfighter through antidote therapy, topical skin protectant barriers, and pretreatment protective measures. To facilitate the search for safe and effective medical countermeasures to chemical warfare agents, the USAMRICD has developed an extensive drug screening program. Each drug that is a candidate pretreatment, treatment, protectant, or decontaminant is subjected to a systematic battery of tests designed to promote those that are the safest and most effective to advanced development. The research products of the USAMRICD provide medical countermeasures that treat and protect service members through antidote therapy, topical skin protectant barriers, and pretreatment protective measures.About CT-3: Atlantic is developing its proprietary CT-3, a patented synthetic derivative of carboxylic tetrahydrocannabinol (THC-7C), as an alternative to NSAIDs, such as aspirin and ibuprofen. CT-3 is a novel synthetic marijuana derivative designed to maximize the medical properties of marijuana without producing undesirable psychoactive side effects. Preliminary studies have shown that CT-3 demonstrates analgesic/anti-inflammatory properties at microgram doses without central nervous system or gastrointestinal side effects, and reduces joint damage caused by rheumatoid arthritis. Atlantic has successfully completed a Phase I clinical trial for CT-3, and is about to announce the commencement of Phase II trials. Atlantic plans to develop oral and parenteral formulations of the compound for chronic pain and inflammation associated with a variety of disease states, and other severe diseases including neurological, musculoskeletal and gastrointenstinal disorders, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma and even cancer.About Atlantic Technology Ventures, Inc. Atlantic Technology Ventures, Inc. is a publicly held venture capital company specializing in early-stage, breakthrough technologies and rapidly incubating these through a definitive proof-of-principle. Atlantic currently has investments in Catarex, a device for cataract removal; CT-3, a synthetic derivative of marijuana for treating pain and inflammation; and, superconducting electronics for telecommunications.Cautionary statement under the "safe harbor" provisions of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995: This press release contains certain forward-looking statements that relate to future scientific, business and financial performance. More important than you think...for us
The Israelis have been studying this for years:http://www.marijuananews.com/marijuananews/cowan/could_medical_marijuana_have_pre.htmwith an eye to preventing the kind of Central Nervous System (CNS) damage that inevitably occurs with exposure to organo-phosphates. Like RoundUp, for example. The import of this cannot be understated: millions of people now suffering from CNS disorders may find effective, long-lasting and SAFE relief from their symptoms. But the immediate importance as far as medicinal cannabis is concerned is extraordinary. We all know the antis have been increasingly desperate to prevent any studies regarding medicinal efficacy of cannabis. The above link is part of the reason why. To admit it has any medicinal uses at all is to blow the whole prohibition thing wide open. As Mr. Cowan so rightly pointed out in the link, the incredible versatility of cannabis as a medicine leaves its' prohibition in an untenable state. We have the truth; they have a multi-billion-dollar (extorted from taxpayers) propaganda machine that deigns even to insinuating itself into places in which it has no business, manipulating the public perception through publicly owned airwaves (that's what the FCC tells us, anyway). But sooner or later, despite all their lies and bombast, the truth will out.I give this DrugWar only two more years before all Hell breaks loose. The SC's ruling, DrugWarriors who are more rashly enthusiastic than thoughtful, chomping at the bit and heedless of the public's perception of the inevitable 'collateral damage' (like Alberto Sepulveda or Charity Bowers); the situation in South America in general and Colombia in particular, and a plethora of other things are all factors in a highly explosive situation. Any one thing or a number of things, in concert or random, can set the whole Prohibition Auto-Destruct in motion. As things get hotter and hotter, we can expect the antis to be increasingly more ossified in their stance...and careless in their denunciations of us. Until they do something so rash and provocative, preferably on live TV, that the public says "Enough!".But, because the antis are so damn belligerant, I'm afraid that it will require more innocent blood to be spilled by them before that public outcry happens.

MARIJUANA ANTIDOTE TO CHEMICAL WARFARE AGENTS --
POT PRETREATMENT PROTECTIVEWouldn't that have made a much more interestng headline? I like how they bury the essential facts in the story. So pot is protective in many ways? So people who have used it for years may have helped their bodies in ways that they never suspected? Interesting. It is a good thing we are saving the children by jailing their mommies and daddies for smoking such a killer weed. Isn't America great: a shining beacon of freedom and hope to the world? I just hope we can lock up even more pot smokers, to keep sending a message to the children: that actions have consequences and that marijuana is evil bad bad, so that we can say to our drug-free children that America cares (to jail them too)! Tears well up in my eyes just thinking about it.

synthetic vs natural
If the synthetic is so good then the natural must surely be good and indeed better. Question: who said the phycoactive side effects are undesirable? Not me and the millions who may use mj for purposes other than medicinal. Oh the goverment did, that's right.
