Shouldn't marijuana be a fast track drug?
Source: SF Gate
Jim Mallett has been using marijuana since 1993 to help him fight the effects of AIDS. Mallett takes close to 40 pills a day and says marijuana eases some of the side effects of the medications. "It seems to relax me, it relaxes my stomach, makes it easier to keep the pills down," he says.
But while the report by the institute of medicine supports that experience, saying it has clear medical benefits, it did not give marijuana a completely clean bill of health. Should sick people be allowed to smoke until they can develop an inhaler?

Yes, I think it should be legal for a person with a legitimate illness to smoke marijuana until pills or an inhaler can be developed. Many of the best drugs drugs on the market today have a natural dirivetive vs. synthetic. What would life be like if consuming certain molds were illegal? It could be illegal because it's a drug that affects our immune system. And what about those neat little pills that saved my grandfather's life...Digitalis. They could be illegal because it is a drug that affects the rythm of the heart.I am a Christian. I do not smoke Marijuana. But I believe that God Himself has given every living thing to mankind for a purpose and it's up to us to figure it out. (Otherwise how boring life would be) Of course we have the resonsibility to use everything wisely and not abuse it.That's what God gave us pharmacies for.I know a man that has Tourette Syndrome. Full blown twitching, screaming, jerking, drive himself crazy Tourette's. It's a nuerological disorder. When one can't control his own body, it's very depressing. This man has been suicidal because of it because of course he can't work and has no social life. The man had tried every drug on the market and suffered the terrible side effects, some with the potential of becoming permanent, secondary disabilities... just to try to get some form of relief. Nothing worked for him.Someone gave him a Marijuana cigarette and for the first time in his life, at the age of 42, he had some relief. He's been taking it every since and is now able to enjoy at least some of the things we take for granted every day. In spite of the fact that Marijuana is a depressant, this man is happier than he's ever been. He is also able to work.If I were dying of some horrible, painful disease like cancer or AID'S, I'd smoke it too and risk going to jail. I don't understand why we can't take advantage of a natural nueroleptic and pain killer to help our sick and dying. Think of the profit as well. More tax dollars too. It's not like legalizing it is going to increase business for the street dealers or anything.
