Marijuana delivered to your house from Amsterdam! Sign up here for fresh green ganja! That's the message wafting out from We Deliver, a week-old Web site -- which we first noticed in a post on Plastic.com -- that promises to send marijuana to your door, and guarantees that the authorities will never open your sweet, stinky little package. Why?
Because the package is labeled as the ashes of a long-lost relative, the site says, and according to the "commenticius" clause in the U.S. Postal Code, "all inspectors are prohibited from the internal examination of any package containing the remains of a human whose life be deemed legally and prematurely ended from without the borders of the United States." If only. Unfortunately for lazy stoners everywhere, the We-Deliver.tv domain name is registered to Sputnik7, a New York entertainment portal out to grab some eyeballs by any means necessary. The We Deliver Web site is a form of "stealth marketing," says Sommer Hixson, the company's public relations director. "We Deliver is Sputnik7's first original, live-action 'webisodic' about a fictional weed delivery service in New York called Green Acres," she says. "The 10-part series will launch on Sputnik7 on Friday, April 20. We-deliver.tv is a campaign to create a pre-launch buzz." The campaign is working. More than 2,100 people have signed up for the site's newsletter and proof of service -- a free joint, delivered by April 20. At Plastic.com, no one seemed to notice that "commenticius" is Latin for "imaginary." And none of those who observed that the We Deliver domain name was owned by Sputnik7.com asked the company what was going on, nor did they discover the Sputnik7 essay about the show. Instead, they reveled in the pleasant possibility of weed, easily delivered. Hixson calls the wide-scale duping a success. She figures the lack of scrutiny reveals just how badly people want fact to mimic fiction. When it comes to drugs, she says, it's easy to induce "a natural, willing suspension of disbelief." -- Damien Cave Source: Salon.com (US Web)Author: Damien Cave Published: April 4, 2001Copyright: 2001 Salon.comWebsite: http://www.salon.com/Contact: salon salonmagazine.comWe Deliverhttp://www.we-deliver.tv/Sputnik7.comhttp://www.sputnik7.com/Hey Mr. Postman, Did My WeedI Mean my Dead Dutch Dad's Ashes, Arrive Yet?http://www.plastic.com/tech/01/04/03/1738216.shtml

e-dealers
There are a couple online 'dealers' that really do deliver, have good stealth/smell control, and pretty decent prices actually... just an FYI. The drug trade is getting even harder to control thanks to the internet. Hopefully the govt will realise even if they lock up every dealer in the states, there will always be people overseas looking to make a buck by sending it over here. And who better to send it through than our own Govt mail service.. hehe

Thanks Robbie
I can barely get into Map or here. It has been giving me grief for a while now and I'm not sure why. I might have a bug. I've been hacked before and it is acting similarly but it could be something else. I'm trying to isolate where the problem originated. I changed to another mouse and used different browsers and it still will barely load. Maybe it's my isp. So many possibilities that makes it hard. If I wouldn't post news and there is some it would be because I can't. Last resort is reformatting. I think I might give up using email at this pace because it crashes my computer so easily and I sure don't want to have to replace this one right now. Thanks, FoM!

Of Mice and Men
Hey Fom! I just wanted to say that I've never had a problem loading CannabisNews. It's always very fast. Also, sorry about your mouse. I have had a MacroSwift mouse for 5 years now, and with periodic cleaning it should last another 5.As to the online mj question... there are a few sources, and you can be very secure about transactions over the net if you want to, but granted, you won't find any website based on American soil (and most other countries) that legitimately offers cannabis. However, there was a Webvan type delivery service set up in Holland last year, where you could order an amount online, and then they'd deliver it to your house! Oh, wouldn't that be sweet :-) I haven't heard about it since, though.
March so that Webvan can deliver marijuana to your house! :-)

Itoke
The so-called commercial delivery service still has their web-site, but they seem to have had a few setbacks because of publicity. Seems the Amsterdam Coffee Shops are a little put out by the "Amazonation" of the business. Hopefully they can all come to terms, because it's a very professional site and the guys sound like they might have the chops to make it work. Maybe they should try Switzerland.

Digi-doob
What I'm waiting for is technology similar to Robby The Robot in Fantastic Planet, where the machine can sample any matter and then reproduce it ad infinitum. Combine that with the internet, and you wouldn't have to worry about ordering pot off the internet - you could just download it!!

E-DOPE
There was one startup company mentioned in the major media about a year ago which intended to sell marijuana online, never heard any more about it though. There has also been this link available for a couple of years http://marijuana-215.org/main.html .

Hey kapt!
Thanks kapt,I took it apart and tried to clean it but I think I wore it out. They say it's hard to do but I do a lot with my mouse or I might have picked up a bug. I'll get a new mouse and if that doesn't work I'll refomat again. Sometimes I can't even get into Cannabis News. That is a problem. I don't like starting all over again after reformating so I'll save that as a last resort. Does Cannabis News always load for you fast? Have you had any problems accessing C News recently? That will help me to pinpoint where I'm having trouble. Will they ever create a bug free computer? I sure hope so! I'm not holding the breathe though. LOL!

I'll say it again
Trying to order weed,or any drugs online is sheer idiocy.Iguess there are plenty of people out there who still try.I wonderif they used credit cards? The DGA,(drug Gestapo Agency),is all over the place.I believethat they have even been fishing around here at 'net yeilds drugs on demand'..tosee if anyone takes the bait....I cant believe people somehow think thatthe internet is secure. If there's anyone out there who doubts the monitoring and snoopingcapabilities of the feds, just remember how quickly they are able tonail hackers in the past.If someone wants weed that bad,it wouldbe safer to drive around the 'hood',than to try to buy it on the internet.I doubt that any of the people who got burned by this sham, are goingto file complaints to the Better business beareu,,or consumer protectionagency.........dddd

Maintenance
FoM, you might want to turn your mouse over on it's back, and look at the hole where the rubber ball peeks through. There shoud be a ring surrounding it that you can twist off to take the ball out. Do that. Check the little black rollers and the larger white roller and see if they have a ring of rubbed-off rubber on them, and scrape it off with your fingernail. That cures a lot of mouse problems. Email me (when it's working right, again) if you have questions.

Storm
Hi everyone, I need to go off line until this thunder storm passes, plus my mouse is having a mind of it's own but I will return as soon as I can. I also need to mention for people who have emailed me that my email is not working right again so I won't be able to answer but thank you all for your comments and questions. I can answer questions much easier here than in email.

At the risk of seeming paranoid...
JRBD, you've perhaps accidentally struck on what could happen. But not through some hackers righteously pissed off at crass exploitation of the generally trusting Online Community.CARNIVORE, remember?A few years ago, I read an article in HIGH TIMES about a secret organization within the Justice Department called FINCEN that would covertly rifle the offshore bank accounts of important personages that were quietly taking bribes and stashing them. Needless to say, when said personages (like Caspar Weinberger) found out they'd been robbed, they weren't likely to speak up, for obvious reasons. You think a sting operation couldn't be set up to do just that to the company database for those none-too-bright stoners who thought they could end-run Officer Boot?Technology is wonderful (just look at your screen) but it has always been a two-edged sword. And lately it's been used more often than not to cut us.

Free the weed!
>>She figures the lack of scrutiny reveals just how badly people want fact to mimic fiction. No, the lack of scrutiny reveals how many people want to get their hands on some good BUD, and that this isn't the only such service - this one's just a FRAUD. Any other commodity that they could promise to send you and don't, they'd be sued!!>>When it comes to drugs, she says, it's easy to induce "a natural, willing suspension of disbelief." Especially in politicians, police, and other authority figures... you can suspend more than just belief! You can suspend your rights!! Makes me wish some operatives of Operation Mayhem would hack into the system, steal the database of people who've signed up, and then SEND THEM WEED!!! It also reminds me of the Yippie campaign, where they put joints in random books in the public library and then encouraged people to "smoke a book"!!
