for hemp and freedom!
SACRAMENTO Sacramento and Davis hemp activists, in conjunction with statewide California grassroots leaders, will rally at the California State Capitol in Sacramento, California, at the south steps on April 20, 1999.
Director of California National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) Dale Gieringer, Ph.D., along with Chris Conrad of Business Alliance for Commerce in Hemp (BACH), will lead and help sponsor localactivists in presenting this year's California Hemp Rally 1999. The rally will begin at 9:00 AM at the Capitol, with a press conference explaining this year's legislative agenda. At 9:30, participants will proceed inside to visit legislators' offices with information on the costs of the drug war and the potential benefits of cannabis/hemp to the environment, economy, health, and well-being. Legislative visits will end at 11:30 AM with speakers beginning shortly afterwards on the south steps of the Capitol, until 3:00 PM. Speakers will include Dale Gieringer (California NORML), Chris Conrad (BACH), Ed Rosenthal (High Times), Mari Kane (Hemp World Magazine), and David V. Bolog (Hemp Initiative 2000). Other guests include political music by Diane Patterson, 4/20 Ray, The Sativa Diva, Amy Sorrell, and James Israel (Comic Press News). Platforms for the rally include: Human Rights: Reducing the record number of Californians imprisoned for marijuana and other non-violent drug offenses at taxpayers' expense. Medical Marijuana: ending the persecution of patients protected under Proposition 215, and continuing to work out the details of getting medicine to patients. Hemp Farming: Restoring the domestic hemp farming industry for environmental preservation and a sustainable economy for the new millennium. Benefits of hemp/cannabis legalization for the economy, crime reduction, public health, and social and spritual well being.
