Regulating Marijuana Closes Gateway

To add to the excellent Dec. 4 editorial on medical marijuana ("Let sufferers inhale"): The plant has been used medicinally for thousands of years. In 1999, a federally commissioned Institute of Medicine report concluded that there are circumstances in which smoking marijuana for medical uses is recommended.Marijuana is one of the most studied plants. Nonetheless, entrenched interests riding the drug-war gravy train continue to claim further research is needed.
Not only should medical marijuana be made available to patients, but adult recreational use should be regulated as well, for a simple reason. Marijuana is the most popular illicit drug. Compared with alcohol and tobacco, it is relatively harmless. Yet marijuana prohibition is deadly. While nothing inherent in marijuana compels users to try harder drugs, its black-market status puts users in contact with criminals who push them, so our drug policy effectively is a gateway policy. As counter-intuitive as it may seem, replacing marijuana prohibition with regulation would do a better job protecting children than the failed drug war. As for medical marijuana, doctors, not Supreme Court justices or drug warriors, should decide what is best for their patients. Don't fear the haters....
I don't know when the madness ends but to me this whole drug war thing is really a joke. Maybe if every american in this country would quit paying taxes the damn war on drugs would end. I agree that a bug crawled in the General's also. It is called a money bug. It really upsets me to know that I cannot grow cannabis in the open without getting caught. I bet our forefathers are looking down at the horeshit that has gone on in this country and are in agony. If I was one of the forefathers and had the chance to greet these shitheads after they died I would beat the hell out of them. God gave us all seed bearing plants for our own personal use. The pledge of allegiance should not be read anymore because it is a fairy tale that died when bureaucrats came into power. I wish that the true americans would stand up to these coward assholes that hide behind their armor and fight. This country needs an enima ASAP!

Fire.
Lots and lots of fire. Maybe he'll pull a nice hit off that roach and mellow out, since his head shares the same cavity most of the time. . .
