State-Ballot Proposals: Where's Line on Marijuana?

As a society, where do we draw the line with marijuana?President Clinton drew it at his lips. But other Americans would go further, and they have taken steps to make the law reflect that.On Tuesday a majority of voters in Colorado and Nevada said it's OK to use marijuana for medical reasons. In Colorado if you suffer from cancer, glaucoma, HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis and chronic nervous system disorders and get a doctor's recommendation, you can possess up to two ounces of marijuana or cultivate six marijuana plants.
In Nevada voters passed an initiative in 1998 to allow the medical use of marijuana, but since it's an amendment to the state constitution, they have to pass it in two consecutive elections. When the measure passed Tuesday, marijuana supporters collectively inhaled and exhaled a sigh of relief that the democratic process was safe.In Alaska an attempt for outright legalization was denied. An initiative there would not only have eliminated marijuana crimes but released all non-violent marijuana offenders from jail. The victory party invitations asked inmates to be polite and not blow smoke in the face of authorities on their way out. But alas, it is not to be.One of the oddest local initiatives was in Mendocino County, Calif., where voters approved a measure to allow citizens to grow up to 25 marijuana plants on their property for their personal use. The measure also called for the district attorney's office to make marijuana enforcement its lowest priority. So instead of don't ask, don't tell, it's don't look, don't find. But how can anyone miss 25 marijuana plants? The Jackson Citizen PatriotSource: Michigan LivePublished: Monday, November 13, 2000Copyright: 2000 Michigan Live Inc.Website: http://ja.mlive.com/ Related Articles & Web Sites:Free Hemp in Alaskahttp://www.freehempinak.orgHemp 2000http://www.hemp2000.org Coloradans For Medical Rights http://www.medicalmarijuana.com/Life As Usual in Emerald Trianglehttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread7643.shtmlMMJ Question Must Go Through Legislature http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread7637.shtmlVoters Dump Pot Proposition 2-to-1http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread7603.shtml Voters Approve Medical Marijuana http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread7601.shtml

DRAWING THE LINE
where do we draw the line for alcohol and tobacco? well presently we have drawn the line near 640,000 deaths per year for booze and squares. since cannabis has never killed anyone in 5,000 years of medical records, i would say adult consumption of marijuana is the correct line to draw. i think maybe with alcohol and tobacco we might need to re-draw the line to 23 years of age and older only. tobacco and alcohol are very addictive and deadly. heroin, cocaine, alcohol, and tobacco are all dangerous. marijuana and coffee are not very dangerous. THE TRUTH IS A HARD PILL TO TAKE FOR SOME PEOPLE...especially politicians on the take from the alcohol/tobacco drug cartels. give all praise and thanks to JAH RASTAFARI...for even the corrupt politicians have been saved through the GRACE OF THE LORD JESUS.
