Vote For Tolerance, Vote For Pot

Letters From The People
Source: Anchorage Daily News

It might be a close vote, but I hope the herb becomes totally legal. I've known up close its properties and effects for some 32 years. If it passes, you pro-voters will be part of a great historic event and statement of liberty to the world. Tell Wev Shea that we Alaskans are more tolerant of each other than in other places. That's the message. Sorry, it's not going away. I figure there would be some influx of people from the Lower 48, like pilgrims fleeing repression in the colonization of America.
Perhaps there would be investors in the paper and cloth processing/production industry if hemp does OK with our short growing season. Can you imagine the quantity of job applicants? Honestly, pot smokers I've known have been inspired, industrious individuals, certainly not dangerous, and it's time we quit turning good people into criminals. Not that I encourage or recommend smoking marijuana before driving, nor would it be legal, but what coffee drinkers do you fear behind the wheel? Personally, I hope everyone who can get a seed grows a backyard garden. If the law fails to go into effect, we will beat it by jury trial by our peers. Save your stalks! If everyone can legally grow, it would be much less profitable to grow and save taxpayer-funded incarceration, court and enforcement wastes of time and money. -- Richard Kidd Homer Hemp Won't Save the World As the debate over legalizing marijuana intensifies, we are seeing more and more misinformation presented to the public to support its use. It should be apparent, even to those who don't closely follow this issue, that the "industrial hemp" people have a not-so-hidden agenda to get high-potency marijuana on the streets. The chances of creating a successful hemp industry in Alaska are zero. What happened to the agricultural efforts at Point MacKenzie and elsewhere in Alaska? This was after the botanical experts said it was possible and millions in state monies were spent. The only way hemp, which is low-potency marijuana, can grow in Alaska is indoors under lights, making it cost-prohibitive. The pro-hemp people know this but are blowing smoke at us to blind us from their true agenda, which they tack on to the end of their referendum. This is to make potent marijuana legal, to free drug dealers, clear their records and compensate the criminals convicted of commercially producing it. These people weren't imprisoned for having personal use quantities of marijuana in their homes. They are the large, commercial cultivators who had previous felony drug convictions. They sold pot, not to benefit society, but to benefit their bank accounts. If marijuana could save the world, as the dopers say, we would have figured it out a long time before now. -- Bob Kelly Wasilla Source: Anchorage Daily News (AK)Published October 9, 2000Copyright: 2000 The Anchorage Daily News Contact: letters adn.com Website: http://www.adn.com/ Related Articles & Web Sites:Free Hemp in AlaskaAl Anders, Chair2603 Spenard RoadAnchorage, Alaska 99503 (907) 278-HEMP E-mail: freehempinak gci.netVisit their Web Site: http://www.freehempinak.orgHemp 2000R.L. Alaska referendum

I hope it passes, and I live in Massachusetts. I hope that the referendums pass everywhere because increased cannabis use will be openly scrutinized; and that's exactly what we need. I'd welcome some truth for a change.

Who says hemp won't save the world, lol?

To remedy the global climate change (greenhouse and ozone depletion)situation, before it is too late to save life on Earth as we now know it, weneed to quickly move away from fossil fuel combustion towards optimumapplications of what could be called "new-energy" or possibly variations on"zero point energy" technologies as the best alternatives, especially overnuclear power, such as summarized in DOE Strategic Plan public comments(with additional links therein) by some of our associates athttp://www.egroups.com/group/strategic-plan , AND most importantly we needto have a global level environmental emergency revival of the USDA 1941-45Hemp for Victory program (now prevented by fraudulent drug laws) to growthis most bioefficient and economically valuable (ie, motivating itscultivation) plant to replace the need to cut so many trees and to helpregreen the planet and restore the oxygen/carbon-dioxide atmospheric balanceto ameliorate the greenhouse effect -- and the ozone layer depletion thatthreatens all oceanic phytoplankton with destruction perhaps in as little as8 years from now.

Uh, no one's saying hemp will save the world

What we are saying is that industrial hemp is a very useful product that is illegal thanks to the drug war (even though it contains no THC to speak of) and that cannabis is a relatively harmless drug (certainly no more harmful than alcohol or tobacco) that should be legalized. Of course the 'drug warriors' don't want that since they'll then be unable to stuff their pockets full of our tax dollars. . .
