High Court Ruling Concerns Nevada Marijuana Backer

An order by the U.S. Supreme Court stopping distribution of marijuana in California has Nevada backers worried about a vote in November that would legalize medical uses of marijuana in this state."I'm still cautiously optimistic," said Dan Hart, spokesman for Nevadans for Medical Rights, a group supporting the initiative. "I felt a lot more comfortable before this story. I don't know how opponents will use and distort this."Two years ago voters -- by a 241,510-to-170,264 margin -- passed the medical marijuana ballot initiative. It must be approved again in November.
If voters approve it a second time, the Legislature must write a law on how the drug can be distributed. In California, the federal government has stymied efforts for sale to those who have prescriptions. The Supreme Court ruling centered on one method of distribution in California -- through clubs. "There are different ways of distribution, and I'm sure they will be adjudicated," Hart said.Keith Macdonald, executive secretary of the Nevada Board of Pharmacy, said the federal government has been "intractable" in its opposition to the drug, which is against federal law to use.But Macdonald said a committee of doctors, pharmacists and others is working on a possible solution. A preliminary proposal suggests the University of Nevada School of Medicine or some other group may set up a research project that could prescribe and deliver marijuana. Such a program would monitor and evaluate whether the drug is effective."Someone has to say if it's a beneficial public policy and look at it," he said.Macdonald said the committee has one more meeting before it reaches a final recommendation. But the medical research proposal is not endorsed by everybody on the committee. "One member felt it was inappropriate to open the door in any manner," Macdonald said.A recommendation from the committee could help the Legislature decide on how it could comply with the wishes of the voters, Macdonald said.Hart called it "a fundamental issue of compassion. People who need this medication should have it available." He added the initiative "takes the government out of the process and lets the physician decide." My Thoughts
Hi CongressmanSuet and Everyone,Yes the news is depression but as long as we can look inside ourselves and know that what we care about is the right way to think then we must go forward and be true to ourselves. The end will tell if we are right or wrong but I believe we are right. Look at this article from Salon and it gives me the creeps. I always wondered if there would ever be a way to track everyone and I could always find a way to say no, like credit cards. Some people can't get credit cards but check this out!Put That Silicon Where The Sun Don't ShineSoon you can have a tracking chip implanted in your body. Is this a great technological breakthrough -- or Big Brother's last laugh?By Katharine MieszkowskiSept. 7, 2000 | Worry no more, doting parents! Whether it's your little pumpkin's first day walking home from school by herself or the millionth time you've lost her at the mall, the BabysitterTM will track your sweetpea's location from a jelly bean-sized microchip implant, discretely tucked under her collarbone. You'll be able to chart her every move. What better way to give her independence, and put your mind at ease? http://www.salon.com/tech/feature/2000/09/07/chips/index.html

Heinous federal BASTARDS!
Ah yes,,,,welcome to the unbelievable world of dictatoresque lawmaking.CongressmanSuet,I know what you mean about having a hard time believing this crap. If you got the time, and your anasthesia,or relaxant of choice,,go to the Thomas website, and casually browse about the bills, and resolutions the wonderful upholders, and defenders of the constitution spend their time on....This is not for the squeamish,or those who are easily pissed off. You will not have to look far to find a plethora of nasty, absurd items like HR 4802. You will find yourself asking;"does anyone else know about this shit?",,,,you will wonder who these scoundrels are,,and how can they get away with it!.. I've always thought that an excellent way to reform our 'wanna be' democracy, would be quite simple, cheap, reasonable, and effective.....Since the airwaves are owned by everyone,(ha-ha),,,there could be a national TV/radio,or printed,non-commercial channel, totally dedicated to broadcasting texts, and facts of what our government is doing.Perhaps the GAO,or some sort of independent citizens group would oversee it....Hey,,,,why dont we just have congress decide on its content?(bad attempt at humor). If the general public was aware of what's going on,most would be horrified. It's true that those who are interested can access much of this info,,,but once you start seeing the ghastly things that go on,,,it becomes too unbelievable and infuriating,,not to mention, disturbing,,it will cause you to seek the deluxe, organic relaxation that only illegal cannabis can provide,,,You sit back on the couch, and take a large draught of Indica Skunkweed, that some daring patriot risked all they had ,to grow,,,,The friendly aroma of the God given herb, blossoms throughout the room,,,you feel better, marijuana IS medicine,,,,,,,,,and then the swat team comes smashing thru your front door, and shoots your dog,and tears your house apart, and takes you to jail,,,leaving your house ransacked, with the front door open!.....Aaaaahhhhh........you wake up in a cold sweat,,and thank God that it was just a bad dream,,,,,,,a nightmare.................dddd

brighten day even more
Here's a bill, heavily promoted by "The Children's Defense Fund" (actually the steal-freedom-from-adults-fund when you look at what they promote). The Child Protection/Alcohol and DrugPartnership Act (S. 2435) http://www.childrensdefense.org/takeaction/s2435.htmlIt extends the reach of government mandated drug testing to ... everyone. If government comes in contact with any child for any reason (social worker, school?, etc), that is considered reason to drug test everyone in that child's family, AND forcibly snatch the child until all comply or test clean. I'm not making this stuff up: read for yourself. When you cut through all the weasel-wording and evasive language of S. 2435, it appears to be a "snatch the kids until everyone in family tests clean" bill.Remember, as always: these slick freedom-robbers want you to think, "Hard-core smack and crack addicts", but they really mean, "adults who use cannabis in any amount for any reason."

May I brighten your day?
Saw a news on TVIn New Mexico, a social worker decided that mom and dad were not fit to take care of 120 pound girl(she is only 3 or 4 yr old) becuz they would not follow their doctor's order. So a judge ordered the girl taken away from the family. What we have here are judges acting like vermins in black robes pretending to be doctors(or GOD). The Street shall take care of it one day.

This is some wild stuff...
I went to that link you posted FoM from the Souder piece. My God, some of these house resolutions are incredible! I have trouble believing this crap! There is a house commitee that is considering the importance of children eating dinner with their parents? We are in BIG trouble, and Im starting to think this is a losing battle, even with all the rhetoric we have seen recently about the advances we are making. It just might be too late. And now, with absolutely no thought to the sick and dying, the supremes side with the law and order types who pervade the gov. Im getting very depressed....

Congressman Slammer's Constitutional Slam-Dunk
Here is the text of H.R.4802. (Amazing how the buzzards can introduce a nice, short bill when they want to. No need for a line-item veto on that one, eh?) Of course, H.R.4802 is unconstitutional on the face of it; explicitly violating the 9th and 10th amendments. Which means that the jackboots hiding under the vast majority of the expensive suit pants in Congress will stampede to support this. Er, For the Children, mind you! Yeah, yeah: all For the Children.A BILLTo clarify Congressional intent regarding the relationship between State and Federal law governing controlled substances.Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That it is hereby expressly declared that it is the intent of the Congress to supersede any and all laws of the States and units of local government insofar as they may now or hereafter effectively permit or purport to authorize the use, growing, manufacture, distribution, or importation by an individual or group of marijuana or any controlled substance which differs from the provisions of the Controlled Substances Act and the Controlled Substances Import and Export Act or regulations issued pursuant thereto. Any law, regulation, or ordinance purporting to establish such different requirement, prohibition, or standard shall be null and void. What Congresscritter Slammer is saying in this piece of unconstitutional garbage, is, that, under no circumstances can local or state drug policy ever differ (that is, be less harsh) than federal law. If it is deemed to be less harsh, then it is automatically nullified. A rather naked dictatorial power grab, isn't it? His concern for the will of the people to have their ancient and traditional freedoms restored to them is quite touching.

This really Sux...
Why do they have to approve it TWICE??? I think I'm correct that most inititives pass with just one win. It seems the Feds might have had a sneaky hand in this. It wouldn't surprise me at all with McCrappie at the helm.
