Governor Johnson is also the first U.S. governor to call for marijuana decriminalization and other major drug policy reforms. Judge James P. Gray was appointed to the Municipal Court in Santa Ana, California by Governor Deukmejian, and later elevated to the Superior Court. He is Executive/Medical Director of Bi-Valley Medical Clinic, an opiate addiction treatment program in Sacramento, California. He is a member of the California Society of Addiction Medicine, Opiate Treatment Committee, and the Federal Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) Consensus Panel on Office-Based Opiate Treatment. Heidi Moore is a widow and single mother of three young children from Sacramento, CA. She was married to Brad Moore, who died of a heroin overdose after he was ordered off methadone by a drug court judge. 11:10-11:20 Kathryn Tucker - The War on Drugs: How it Undermines Provision of Good Pain and Palliative Care to the Terminally Ill Kathryn L. Tucker is Director of Legal Affairs for Compassion in Dying, a national non-profit public interest organization dedicated to expanding and protecting the rights of the terminally ill, and improving care for the dying. Tucker is involved in efforts to bring accountability to health care providers who fail to provide adequate pain care to patients, in both medical disciplinary and civil tort contexts. 11:20-11:35 Dave Purchase - (introduced by Carrie Broadus) - Dave Purchase is the chairperson of the North American Syringe Exchange Network (NASEN) and the director of the Point Defiance AIDS Projects. He travels a great deal to consult with beginning exchange programs and to continue educating the public about the benefits of harm reduction. Carrie Broadus is a longtime community health advocate with over 10 years of experience, including work at the Minority AIDS Project (MAP). In 1984, Reverend Jackson founded the National Rainbow Coalition, a social justice organization devoted to political empowerment, education and changing public policy. He has also run two presidential campaigns which garnered over ten million votes. 1:25-1:40 Bill Maher Bill Maher is the host of Politically Incorrect. 1:40-1:55 Kevin Zeese with a video from Amy Ralston Facing the Ugliness of the War on Drugs Kevin Zeese, President of Common Sense for Drug Policy, is one of the foremost authorities on drug policy issues. Zeese has worked on a wide array of drug issues, including the medical use of marijuana, the militarization of drug enforcement, drug testing, the use of herbicides in drug enforcement, needle exchange and racism in the war on drugs. After serving over 9 years in prison, Amy Ralston (formerly Pofahl) was released on July 7, 2000 when President Clinton commuted her sentence, relative to the draconian and unjust 24 year sentence she received for conspiracy related to her ex-husband's illicit ecstasy organization. 1:55-2:05 Antonio Gonzalez The Impact of the Drug War on Latinos Antonio Gonzalez is President of the Southwest Voter Registration Education Project (SVREP), the largest and oldest non-partisan Latino voter participation organization in the U.S. Gonzalez is currently leading an effort called Latino Vote 2000 that plans to surpass Latino voting participation records set in 1996. 2:05-2:10 Sandra Alvarez Sandra Alvarez, a second generation Colombian-American, is the coordinator of the Colombia program at Global Exchange, a San Francisco-based international human rights organization. Before launching the Colombia human rights campaign, Alvarez directed Global Exchange's campaign to stop abuses against immigrants crossing the California-Mexico border. 2:10-2:25 Congressman Tom Campbell (R-CA) (introduced by Richard Dennis) Representing Silicon Valley in the House of Representatives, Congressman Campbell has been one of Congress's few outspoken critics of the war on drugs.
