Letters To The Editor
Source: Journal Gazette
As a member of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, I take exception to Rep. Souder's letter of July 2. He stated that "NORML's sole mission in all its years of existence has been the legalization of marijuana for everyone." NORML's mission is quite simple; "No adult in the privacy of their own home should ever face criminal prosecution for the possession of this plant."
Souder uses fear tactics to keep the war on marijuana alive by trying to make voters believe that NORML wants to turn our children on. Nothing is further from the truth. In every state where the citizens are allowed to vote on medical marijuana, it has been overwhelmingly accepted. The states are tired of wasting their limited tax dollars on arresting sick people. Quite wisely, they have decided to let the federal government do this. Souder bemoans the "well funded activists" who are trying to legalize this plant. He says nothing about the $7.5 billion dollars the federal government spends each year keeping this plant illegal. Talk about "well funded."Terry Giese, Fort WayneNORMLhttp://www.norml.org/ Marijuana Is Not Medical:Regarding the July 6 editorial, "Let states decide about medical marijuana," you have done an excellent job in ignoring reality! Follow the money trail of the state initiatives to legalize marijuana as a so-called medicine. The money trail shows that they have been financed by George Soros and two of his buddies, all of whom support the legalization of marijuana and other drugs such as heroin and cocaine. The initiatives are clearly about drug legalization and not medicine. All of the major medical associations, such as the American Medical Association, have rejected crude marijuana as medicine.About the only accurate statement you made is that "cancer sufferers are not the same as recreational drug users." The reality is that people who are seriously ill with cancer are not smoking pot to treat their cancer - they are under the care and supervision of legitimate doctors and are receiving valid medicines to treat their ailments. In fact, one of the first things that doctors prohibit around cancer patients is smoking of any kind. Those who are advocates of the illegal use of marijuana and other drugs are using cancer patients as an excuse to further their own selfish cause.Rep. Mark Souder should be commended for his courageous attempts to expose the medical excuse marijuana scam for what it really is - a campaign to legalize drugs and to promote drug use to our children. Right on, Dan B.
George Soros has made no secret of his objective of legalizing drugs. In fact, he was a leader in taking that position years ago. I also support full legalization and, consistent with that stance, support legalized marijuana for medical use too. Of course.I freely admit that legalizing MJ for medical use only falls far short of the changes I hope, and expect, will be forthcoming. But I do welcome this first step. If Calvina sees the effects of marijuana, openly smoked, on these sick people instead of reading reports of their arrests, confinements and deaths, along with a healthy dose of government pamphlets, perhaps her understanding of the real issues and problems will be raised and then she too can see the foolhardiness of this SCWOD.I wish too, in order to avoid any charges by this drug warrior of hidden motives, that I seek far more than simple legalization. I also seek the release of all nonviolent POW's and restitution of their property, lives and citizenship in full.So that I may not be accused of being less than forthright, let me affirm now that the full legalization of drugs and restitution for war victims will also not satisfy me. Once this war has been won, it will be necessary to secure the peace. For there will remain, more fundamental than drug legalization, the basic issues of the sanctity of The Bill of Rights, how it came that the judicial system failed us, and the basic structural changes in government and the two party system that will be needed to prevent another holocaust like the SCWOD. I believe it was in 1995 that Robert McNamara, VietNam War warrior, admitted all these decades later that he knew the war was wrong, that he knew so in fact during the conflict. Yet he pressed on for reasons convenient to him and lethal for countless others. I am not yet certain what post-legalization measures will be necessary to secure the future, but in egregious cases like this I would, as part of the reform movement, support War Crime Hearings for WOD warriors. The Foundation for a Drug Free America is quite right to expect that not all supporters of medical marijuana will be satisfied with only that, while a renegade government goes on its merry, vicious way. This war will not be won until we can say "Never Again". SUPPORT THE SHADOW CONVENTIONS IN PHILADELPHIA AND LOS ANGELES

Medical Marijuana
Chris Conrad wrote a book on medicinal marijuana that deserves serious consideration, as well as the books written by Dr. lester Grinspoon. Marijuana has profound effects on many levels, including chemotherepy.

Another Example of "Consider the Source"
Notice: Letter A was written by a member of NORML, who gives a minimum 25 bucks a year just to be able to say "I support this cause." Letter B was written by the executive director of the Drug-Free America Foundation, whose financial existence depends on the continued criminalization of marijuana.Whom should the sane individual be more inclined to believe?
