SANDPOINT Three Americans, one Canadian arrested at Idaho, Montana crossings.U.S. Border Patrol agents made two drug busts Monday night at Montana and Idaho border crossings.
An agent from the Porthill station in Idaho working with a U.S. Customs inspector and a Boundary County Sheriff's deputy arrested two U.S. citizens and a Canadian national who were smuggling marijuana, hashish and psilocybin mushrooms across the border, the border patrol said.John Standahl of the U.S. Border Patrol said the men walked the contraband across the border crossing. They were arrested at 8:25 p.m. Monday at the Three-Mile junction north of Bonners Ferry, according to the Boundary County Sheriff's Department.``We've been getting a fair amount (of drugs) out of that country,'' Standahl said. ``There's quite a demand for it south of the border.''Agents recovered 12 pounds of ``BC bud'' marijuana, nearly 2 pounds of hashish and 4 pounds of mushrooms. The combined value of the narcotics is estimated to be $194,720.Arrested on drug trafficking charges were Jonathan Eric Griffiths, 19, and Joseph Alexander Morgan, 22, both of California, and Che Lee Burnett, 24, of Canada. They are being held in the Boundary County Jail.The same evening, another American was arrested near the Eureka, Mont., border station with 40 pounds of cocaine he was attempting to smuggle into the states, the border patrol said.A border patrol agent and officers from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department and the U.S. Forest Service made the arrest.The officers also seized a 1990 Ford pickup and a 9 mm handgun. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department would not release the name of the person arrested.
