Marijuana gardens are popping up like, well, weeds. The Stanislaus Drug Enforcement Agency discovered another large-scale marijuana garden Tuesday in the dense wetlands just south of the San Joaquin River. The garden contained 500 young plants that would have been worth approximately $1 million once they reached maturity, SDEA Sgt. Tim David said.
The site was about a mile north of where 1,600 plants were found Monday. The two-day haul would have been worth an estimated $4.2 million at harvest, officials said. "This is probably the biggest two-day seizure in county history," David said. "It's typical around our rivers in the county. That area isn't the only area we know is popular for growing weed. We'll be checking more places. Really, the summer is just starting." He said officers believe one group of marijuana growers likely is responsible for both sites. "Our best guess is that it's the same guys," David said. "Only because of the way they're planted and the way they're tilled. Some of the same type of equipment was used. The first seizure came Monday morning while SDEA detectives searched the area for a methamphetamine lab. The night before, a state Department of Fish and Game warden heard what turned out to be a water pump used to irrigate the crop. Tuesday's discovery, however, came by way of a tip from the landowner. His friends had stumbled onto the young garden a week ago, David said. SDEA detectives arrived at the property at about 2 p.m. and found the garden a half-hour later. It wasn't nearly as secluded as Monday's find, which was hidden in tall weeds and willow trees near a swamp. The plants, most about a foot tall, were taken back to the SDEA office. They will be destroyed, David said. Published: Wednesday, June 14, 2000Copyright © The Modesto Bee. River
I find this very funny that 500 plants can equal 1.2 mil, there the pigs are always inflating what the true valueof marijuana is. I'm sure the intent is to make it sound more important. how stupid. Thats all for now.Chas...:)
