A former Philadelphia cop was convicted yesterday of laundering money for a local drug dealer. The defendant, Peter Henry, was acquitted of related drug trafficking and other money laundering charges. Henry, dismissed last year after about a dozen years on the force, remains free on bail. He'll be sentenced in May by U.S. District Judge J. Curtis Joyner.
The jury found that Henry had deposited into his account at the Police and Firemen's Federal Credit Union a local drug dealer's marijuana profits. The jury said Henry withdrew part of those profits twice in 1993, first to buy two vehicles for the drug ring, including a $30,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a $50,000 Lexus.Henry, 35, of Lankenau Road could face six years in prison under federal sentencing guidelines, said the prosecutor, Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert K. Reed. Defense attorney Jack Meyerson conceded his client had been a friend of reputed drug boss Corbin Thomas, a Jamaican national who's now a fugitive. But Meyerson said there was no direct evidence the deposits had come from drugs.
