Legislation making it easier for doctors to prescribe synthetic marijuana in pill form has won legislative approval, but a spokesman for a patients' rights group says that won't resolve the debate over medical marijuana.
The bill, by Sen. Patrick Johnston, D-Stockton, moves the drug dronabinol to a less-restricted level of government control. Federal agencies have initially approved the same step. For example, physicians who prescribe the drug to control nausea and vomiting would no longer have to write the prescription in triplicate and submit a copy to the Justice Department. But Dave Fratello, a spokesman for Americans for Medical Rights, said dronabinol, which is sold under the trade name Marinol, won't satisfy the needs of all patients who need marijuana."For many patients it's too powerful," he said. "And the delayed onset of effects makes it inferior to marijuana, which has instant effects."That doesn't mean that it's useless. It's just that for many patients who have no good alternative Marinol does not work and marijuana does."Proposition 215, which was passed by California voters in 1996, legalized cultivation of marijuana for medical use in California. But federal law still bans marijuana possession.Johnston's bill was given final approval by the Legislature on Thursday when the Senate adopted Assembly amendments, 28-0.Published: March 17, 2000Sacramento (AP) Copyright © The Sacramento Bee Marinol's Web Sitehttp://www.marinol.com/CannabisNews Articles On Marinol:http://www.google.com/search?q=cannabisnews+marinol

no one to blame except ourselves....
hey all, first of all of course i think every form should be legal, but we have no one to blame except ourselves...we are the reason that it is still not legal for any reason...if we don't get out and vote, or raise hell about something that is so unfair/unjust/etc then the only one to blame is ourselves...we can win this war, this is actually a good step towards victory...don't get too angry, just talk to people about the subject, who will inturn talk to others, and victory will be ours...don't EVER give up on this cause, because it is worth fighting...medical, industrial, or recreational...

What kind of law is this?
> Let's see. Synthetic THC is legal and natural THC is illegal. What kind of law is this? It is a law that is good for the profits of pharmaceutical companies willing to gouge millions of suffering people, corrupting governments to prevent the people from using a cheap and natural traditional remedy. These companies buy off (sorry, I mean lobby and contribute to) politicians to maintain the facade that we must jail adults who use cannabis to somehow protect "the children." That kind of a "law." Yes, a "law" framed by liars, the misled, and the corrupted.

Synthetic is okay -- natural is illegal?????
Let's see. Synthetic THC is legal and natural THC is illegal. What kind of law is this? Perhaps the impetus of this phenomenon was initiated by the pharmaceutical industry, hoping to cash in and make billions on a synthesized version of THC that happens to be slow-acting with all the difficulty in determining proper doses? I'm willing to wager that any relative of a member of the House or Congress who needs treatment for cancer or AIDS will get a supply of the "natural" form, though illegal.SENDING SICK PEOPLE UNDERGROUND TO GET MEDICATION IS EVIL.
