A Valid Use for Marijuana

Medical marijuana has been used over the last 12,000 years. Cannabis has been used for medicine, fuel, clothing, food; it has been used in religion. So let's see: Marijuana has been used for 12,000 years and never, I repeat never, has there ever been one recorded report of "death" due to cannabis. Now aspirin in the United States alone kills over 1,000 a year, according to government reports.
So which is safer, cannabis or aspirin? The government wants more study? Cannabis is one of the most studied herbs known to man. None of the studies independent of the U.S. government has ever shown it to be harmful, addicting, habit-forming, a "gateway drug" or in general bad for you in any way. On the contrary, people who use marijuana scored slightly higher on IQ tests, had slightly lower rates of illness and cancer, and lived longer on an average than the non-user. Who said this? Ian Williams Goddard, who references such publications as the Harvard Medical School Mental Health Letter. My suggestion is that the federal government is lying to us about medical marijuana. Look at all the money they have tied up just to keep marijuana illegal. If it were decriminalized and medical marijuana use made legal, look at the tax money we all could save. My big gripe is that if medical marijuana has been approved by the people in several states, then how can it be deemed illegal for medical use anywhere in the United States? There is a reason the government put cannabis on the illegal drug list: money. I do not advocate the legalization of drugs. No way. What I do advocate is common sense--medical use of marijuana by anyone who feels it benefits him or her, nothing more, nothing less. Network Payola,,is it true?
What keeps haunting me(since nemo brought up the subject of television[he has cable]),is seeing these shows on FOX,like ;Americas Most Wanted,or'Wildest police Chases',,"Cops"..etc,and imagining some megabucks bogart TV executive getting 5 Grand or so from the drug war account, because the show conformed,to whatever the definition of "anti drug" was. Absolutely Disgusting...dddd

Synchronicity upside the head!
While reading 4d's comments, I've been watching an old movie on the FX channel titled 'Flashpoint' starring Kris Kristofferson. In it, A black ops Fed agent tells Kristofferson's character that 'Every morning I wake up and *thank God* that there are drugs and crime and subversion. Supply and demand, Logan. If it didn't exist, we'd have to create it'. Need I say more?

nemo...you are right again
But what I find really appalling,is the question of how far does the ONDCPs' propaganda pay go? Look at any "drug war",press release,or article.I imagine cash or credit changes hands for even subtle items. This has gotta be one of the most absurd,'Orwellian',things yet. What the HELL is the federal government doing ,,using OUR HARD EARNED TAX money,to pay for propaganda. Glad I'm old,,,I'll be dead when things get really f%#ked. But that's not to say I wont fight to make things better....dddd

4d, 'Barry-ola' is why you don't see more truth
The producers in Hollywood weren't the only ones who took ONDCP money for spouting the 'party line'. Newspapers, too.The party line. The staple of Communist propaganda organs was what the 'party line' was on any issue. And yes, if you remember, the Republicans in New Mexico used *exactly that phrase* in saying they'd wish Gov. Johnson would toe the 'party line' on illegal drugs. When our pols start making noises like our former ideological enemies, you have to wonder.

Oregon
Yes,,Oregon is a rather likely state to be first,,,but anywhere the big money ONDCP/prison industrial complex, sees the voters in favor of any thing to do with marijuana, they will use all the resources our tax money can buy to villify weed. How did they get away with making the voice of the people, not count in California and other states? And they wonder why more people dont vote....dddd

Why..?
Probably because it's still a federal crime which is totally insane. The mental health of the country would improve. We'll see it happen in Oregon first because they're legalizing it for depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder and schizophrenia. It's the decade of the brain and weed is available and extremely effective from all the reports I've read. Why isn't it being legalized? The people want it. Who's running the government anyway?
