An initiative to legalize marijuana and other hemp products has been certified for the November ballot, Lt. Gov. Fran Ulmer said Wednesday. The Division of Elections validated 24,474 petition signatures as coming from registered voters. "They had more than they needed," said Virginia Breeze, a spokeswoman for the division.
Initiative sponsors needed 22,716 signatures of registered voters - 10 percent of the number of people who voted in the last general election - to place proposals on the ballot. Breeze said elections workers quit counting soon after the measure reached the threshold. Len Karpinski, a sponsor of the marijuana initiative, said last month that his group collected 40,865 signatures. The initiative prepared by Karpinski, Scott Kohlhaas and Fred James is titled "An Act to Re-legalize Hemp." Karpinski, state chairman of the Libertarian Party, said the measure would make possession of hemp legal under state law. Marijuana would be regulated as alcoholic beverages are regulated now. Alaskans convicted of past marijuana crimes would receive amnesty and could recover seized property. The initiative also would allow the use of hemp for clothing, medicine and other uses, Karpinski said. However, the initiative would not change federal laws against marijuana cultivation and possession. Two years ago, Alaska voters legalized limited marijuana possession and use for a short list of medical conditions. Trailervision
I'm just writing this quick email to let you know what we're up to here at TrailervisionThe basic premise of Trailervision is that we make movie trailers to movies that don't exist. Our latest trailer 'Boozer Madness' is a satire on the 50's movie 'Reefer Madness', where the roles of alcohol and dope are reversed. As I said before, I think you'll enjoy it, it's pretty strange stuff.
