Renee Emry Wolfe, an Ann Arbor resident who smokes marijuana for her multiple sclerosis, was facing a trial today in the District of Columbia Superior Court in Washington, D.C.The trial stems from a 1998 arrest when Wolfe lit up a marijuana joint in the outer offices of U.S. Rep Bill McCollum. She was visiting the Florida Republican to oppose his legislation against medical marijuana.
Wolfe, a 39-year-old mother of four, waged another legal battle after she was arrested in 1994 when narcotics officers found nine marijuana plants in her Ann Arbor home. She was convicted by a jury, but a judge threw out a fine because she was using marijuana for medical reasons.Wolfe also was arrested for selling marijuana to an undercover officer. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months on probation and 40 hours of community service. An unsuccessful Liberatarian candidate for Ann Arbor City Council in 1995, Wolfe has helped circulate petitions for the medical marijuana initiative the party wants on the November ballot."I cannot heel-to-toe walk before I smoke," she said. "After I smoke, I can heel-to-toe walk as far as I want to. I have no appetite if I don't smoke. If I do, I have an appetite. I have insomnia if I don't smoke. If I do, I don't have insomnia."Published: January 20, 2000Copyright 2000 Michigan Live Inc.Related Article: MS Patient Faces Marijuana Trial - 2/09/99http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread468.shtml

I just hope that last message was every bit the complete sarcastic joke as it appears to be. The thing that really annoys, concerns, and bewilders me is all the people who think that way for real.If she is being helped by pot with a serious disease such as she has then let her have it. It's not as if all prescribed/OTC drugs are safe- many are far more dangerous than pot. There are many instances where the FDA has prematurely approved medications and food products that were potentially unsafe with side effects that would make cotton mouth and paranoia seem trivial...so long as the company that produces the given food or drug is in good with them. Don't take my word for it- look it up. You'll also find there's a lot more to be annoyed with concerning the FDA beyond these instances. You don't see anybody cracking down on them. As anyone with half a brain knows, the drug war is a lost cause. People all over the world of all walks of life die every day in the illicit drug trade- some of them Americans fruitlessly trying to stop what demand will never allow to be stopped. Legalization would bring an end to so much unnecessary death and suffering. Addicts are going to suffer one way or the other.God bless America, a culture where needless death and violence is fine and vices such as sex and drugs are frowned upon.

Let's be careful here, we do not want to send the wrong message to our children. After all, it it is the will of God that all people must suffer. Sorry Renee.
