CAMPO, Calif. Strategically placed hay bales and oversized duffel bags in a converted flat bed pickup truck led the U.S. Border Patrol to more than 900 pounds of Marijuana, authorities said Thursday.
A Border Patrol agent spotted a Toyota pickup truck on Wednesday near Boulevard, about 70 miles east of San Diego. When the truck passed the border agent's unmarked car in the opposite direction, the agent noticed that hay bales were stacked in the back of the truck in a way that partially concealed duffel bags, authorities said. The agent turned around to follow the truck and check the license plate and the truck pulled into a driveway. The driver and a passenger jumped out and fled to Mexico. However, Border Patrol authorities did find 59 packages of marijuana totaling 907 pounds. The marijuana has an estimated value of $725,600 and was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
