What's the big deal about pot? I've smoked it on and off since '71, and it hasn't warped or killed me. The simple fact is that *some* people like to alter their perception and thinking now and then because always being sober in day to day reality can get to be a bit of a drag!
I also like drinking a bit now and then, though these days my liver would prefer that I stick with pot (shucks!). You know, some folks get their kicks by parachuting...and others by driving cars real fast...and so what's so bad about a guy blowing a little weed now and then?? Its only when they're running for public office that they "suddenly" realize the evils of pot use then they hold up the "children" as their Red Herring in an unwinnable social war. When kids can get marijuana faster then they can get alcohol its a sure sign that marijuana prohibition is a failure. Arresting adults for marijuana possession does not lower teen drug use. Regulate it, tax it and have stiff penalties for selling to minors and treat the marijuana impaired driver the same way we do alcohol impaired drivers. Posted: Friday Dec. 24, 1999 at 1:51 PM From: Roger Hane City: Southfield State: MI Subject: Marijuana_amendment Comments: Well, well, well. Here we have a far-right governor and a legislature dominated by very conservative Republicans. Here's their chance to show us that they really do want to reduce the power of big government by preventing the regulation of a personal freedom. But will they? Of course not! Once again, their actions will belie their empty words. When push comes to shove, those Religious Right legislators love a big, repressive government. This legislation is way too enlightened for a backwards state like Michigan. As a civil libertarian who has never used any illegal drugs, my only problem with the proposed legislation is that it is still far too restrictive! Posted: Thursday Dec. 23, 1999 at 10:08 PM From: Don Schmittdiel City: Clinton Twp. State: MI E-mail: sumerman iFreedom.com Subject: Marijuana_amendment Comments: Marijuana is a psychologically addicting drug that ruins lives. People who drive when high are more likely to have accidents. It is a "gateway" drug. Virtually all users of hard drugs start with nicotine, alcohol, and marijuana. Virtually no one starts with cocaine or heroin. Legalization of this drug would be a step backwards in these and other ways. It is hard to believe that, in our drug laden society, anyone would seriously suggest making access easier. Published: December 24, 1999Detroit NewsLegalize Marijuana? Under a proposed amendment to the state constitution, anyone 21 or older could grow and smoke up to 3 ounces of marijuana at home. Are you in favor of such an amendment? None so blind as who will not see
or read.Evidently, Mr. Schmittdiel has taken to heart the (terribly dated) propaganda being forwarded as fact by the Federal government. No doubt he reads the Federal Register and consider's it to be the Burning Bush. But there's one small problem, here: the IoM report. It was consecrated by none other than the McCzar, the most able verbal contortionist seen on this planet since Nixon, and surprise! blew out of the water *every single point* Schmittdiel brought up. Evidently, we have another ostrich masquerading as another Mr. Current Events; someone should send this guy a copy of the IoM report, but there's no guarantee he'll read it - like the government itself, his mind is made up, don't confuse him with the facts.

Psychologically addicting? Man, thats "weak"! And your'e the one ruining lives by keeping your head buried in the sand and not allowing a harmless high(marijuana) to replace what has been the scourge(alcohol) of man-kind since time began! And Test's have already proven that driving under the influence of marijuana(which should not be done) is about 90% safer than drunken driving! And your'e "GATEWAY" theory is the oldest LIE in the book. E-V-E-R-Y-B-O-D-Y knows alcohol holds that title(ONCE-AND-FOR-ALL, GET A CLUE on that one)! And Legalization of marijuana would do something that you DUMMY'S have unsuccesfully tried to do since 1937, it would cut school-age access "by 99%","OVERNIGHT"!!! So take your old-boy,old-ways self home, have a MARTINI, and watch some MATLOCK or something on T.V.
