Marijuana plants with an estimated street value of $500 million have been destroyed in the Sierra Nevada foothills, most of it in the Sequoia National Forest, officials said on Friday.
More than 100,000 marijuana plants were found in harvesting that began in October and was carried out by Tulare County Sheriff's deputies and other law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service and the National Guard.About 80 plots were found, said Tulare County Sheriff's Lt. Greg Wright, describing the operation as yielding "high-quality marijuana.""This is a little more involved than just some guy who went out to grow a few marijuana plants," he said.A total of seven people have been arrested so far, he said. The suspects lived in the remote planting area about 240 miles southeast of San Francisco."They did the whole operation, including bagging it," Wright said. Some of the workers were illegal immigrants smuggled from Mexico who were forced to harvest the plots to pay off debts owed to the smugglers, authorities said. The haul apparently ranked among the largest in California history.State officials announced in October that about a quarter-million marijuana plants worth an estimated $1 billion wholesale were seized this year, nearly double last year's tally. The figure was far higher than the previous record set in 1985, when authorities confiscated more than 166,000 plants. Marijuna USERS vs ABUSERS
I have MS and I use Marijuna to help me manage my daily routine, just like someone with allergies who takes medication so they can function like a "NORMAL" person. I USE Marijuna to help me be some what Normal again. Why should the medical USERS be last the one to cosult and first one to pay and at the end of the day be still considered a criminal and their survival action considered a criminal act? Why should I have to put up with all the red tape buracracy and abusing "NORMAL" people who think they know what is best for me. Take a few step in my shoe and then decide for me.

It will be ok!

We've been very lucky here about no flames. I hope no one wants to fight because it would be such a shame to finally have a place we can feel that that won't happen. I never have understood people doing that at all. Does it help? I don't think so! Peace, FoM!

Idiocy. Plain and simple.

Tulare County taxpayers should be asking their legislators the question, "Why are we paying a bunch of Barney Fifes to go out and pull weeds?" I'm sure there are much more pressing crime problems in Tulare County than a handful of illegal immigrants tending a field of herbs.I'm sure the thought of regulating and taxing the sale of cannabis never crosses the lawmakers' feeble minds. Imagine how much extra revenue the county could make if $500 million of pot were taxed?Of course, this won't ever happen until the prohibitionist kingpins in Washington (such as McCollum, Hatch, Feinstein, and Barr) get booted out of office!Wake up people! Next time these fools are up for reelection, KICK 'EM OUT!! And keep two-faced GW Bush out of the Presidency!
