Renee Boje Willing To Surrender

For Immediate Release
Source: Renee Boje's Legal Defense Fund
United States fugitive and medical marijuana advocate, Renee Boje, will voluntarily stop fighting her extradition from Canada and surrender herself to American authorities in return for assurances that the charges against her friend and fellow medical marijuana advocate Peter McWilliams are dropped and that he is given the right to use marijuana as medicine.
In a letter addressed to California State Attorney, Alejandro N. Mayorkas and copied to United States Attorney General, Janet Reno, Renee has outlined the conditions of her surrender. Renee will hand deliver the letters to the United States Consulate at 11am Tuesday, November 9th at 1095 West Pender St. Vancouver, BC. Copies of the letter will be available at that time. Renee Boje, is an American citizen currently in Canada fighting extradition to the United States where she faces charges that could net her a mandatory minimum of 10 years to life in prison for her alleged part in a medical marijuana garden in California. Peter McWilliams suffers from AIDS and like many others in his condition uses marijuana to alleviate the nausea and stimulate his lost appetite due to the effects of the powerful AIDS drugs he must take. He is confined to a wheelchair, suffers from constant nausea and is out of bed only four hours a day. Boje, McWilliams, McCormick and six others defendants in a 1997 raid on a medical marijuana garden in Los Angeles all face lengthy prison terms. On Friday November 5th, Federal District, Judge George King ruled that the jury in their trial cannot be told that both McWilliams and McCormick have prescriptions from doctors to use marijuana legally under voter approved, Proposition 215, in California. The jury as well, cannot be told that the marijuana grown at McCormick's home was being grown for medical research, studying the effects different strains have on a number of medical conditions. Given this ruling by the federal judge, Boje is convinced that McWilliams will be sent to prison without access to his life prolonging marijuana, and will die shortly afterward. "I would be lying if I said I was not frightened over the consequences of my actions."said Renee," I would also be betraying everything I believe in if I did not do whatever I could to save Peter." Boje, was hired as a free lance artist by McCormick & submitted illustrations for a book that McCormick was writing on his research findings, which is called, "How to Grow Medical Marijuana." See: http://www.marijuanamagazine.com to view the book. Peter was the publisher and McCormick the author. They are all caught in a vicious battle of jurisdiction between the US Federal Government and the wishes of the California electorate over the legality of medicinal marijuana. Public Opinion is the only way to win now.
And Renee Boje is doing the only thing that will save people's lives NOW, not ten years from now after many tiny pinpricks via court cases, initiatives, etc.. Public opinion is the fastest way. And Renee's sacrifice is a fast way to educate the public. So are shortcut MAP URLs. Go to the MAP bulletin board and read the message titled: "Will $10 be enough for each shortcut URL for Peter McWilliams, Todd McCormick, etc.?"---A direct link to the message and its replies ishttp://www.islandnet.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/cnews/postit?login=creator&topic=cmap/forum/dpr&order=thread&article=497---If the direct link doesn't work go to the MAP home page link at:http://www.mapinc.organd then click on the bulletin board link, and go to my message. Here is an example of a MAP shortcut URL. This one is for Renee Boje.http://www.mapinc.org/renee.htm

Great Movie Oh Yes!
Yes it would make a great movie! You can always tell the good guys because they wear white hats! LOL! I wear a white hat! Just kidding! We are the good guys because we have searched deep within ourselves to come to the conclusions that we've reached. Each one of us in our own time and for our own reasons. I wish they would do the same.

Wouldn't the whole thing make a great movie?
Thanks FoM, I have volunteered to do a few for Richard just for practice.Wouldn't the whole thing make a great movie? There certainly are enough twists and turns, evil villians, heros and heroines to go around. You could even have two versions, with the roles reversed (good guys vs bad guys) and the endings different, depending on the area/culture being played for. It is truly outrageous that those most vulnerable are being preyed upon by pathetic polititians and sadistic law enforcement.Mr. Clinton did not answer my question tonight. Oh well, I hope someone at least gives them to him.Perhaps we will be able to tell our children and grandchildren of the cultural wars, and use the past tense.Peace, Doc

Devils...no, Something much worse.
I hate to say this, but this would be a fool's bargain. The Feds have demonstrated a willingness to KILL McWilliams. They know exactly what they are doing. They know that he is dying. They know that by hiding behind these outrageous laws, if/when he dies they can claim that they had no blame for it in a *legal* sense. This is precisely what they want; a dead activist that they can say died of 'natural causes', not from their withholding vital effective medicine from, but because he had AIDS. Then they will turn their eyes to those other activists and say, with a chillingly gleeful smile, meant to freeze bone marrow, 'Do you want to end up the same way?'Given this demonstration of Federal 'compassion', what do you think they would do to her? Give her tea and crumpets?Wake up, people. They have declared *war* on not only substances, but on US as well. Every prisoner serving time is a POW. Every activist is an 'enemy of the state'. Expect no quarter asked or given. They obviously don't

A noble sacrifice...but do you trust the bastards?
Renee, I am speechless at your offer. It is certainly the kindest expression of concern I have ever witnessed . The helplessness of Peter's situation has turned to hope, but my pessimistic side is fearful for your safety and the government's zeal to nail you ALL may make such a trade unrealistic or unenforcable. There are many following the latest developments in California, and the time may be right for a change. You personally have brought the issue to the front and perhaps you will win. It is clear that with each passing day, Peter is losing his life because of the prohibitionist *$#!&(&$. Bless you.Best of luck and keep kicking. We are with you!Doc

No One Must Go To Jail!
Jean and Rainbow, I agree with the both of you. It is the greatest gift of all to offer what Renee did, but NO it isn't right. We won't quit and we must win this! I feel that this is our test and if we fail, the drug policy reform movement will be stifled for a long time! No time to waste! No time for game playing! Only time for life and what we each can do to help!

A Life for A life...
It is the greatest gift a person can give.. but Renee..you don't deserve the same treatment either. This battle needs to be won not just for Peter.. but for you and Todd too. If you give yourself up...they will convict you, I think we all know that. This is the time to stop this craziness not to transfer it to you. Please give us a little bit of time, we have a little left. I don't think anyone wants to see any of you prosecuted for this. Hang in... we are doing our very best.

Watch out for the devil - remember Waco and Ruby R
She is courageous but making a deal with the devil is a terrible choice to make. The devil will doublecross her and she ought to know that.In the end the USA will win and she too will be forced into undue and unjust treatment.Rainbow
