Dr. Grinspoon Answer Question On The Mayo Clinic

Dear Dr. Grinspoon: I am wondering how the Mayo Clinic can say that marihuana causes breast enlargement and impotence in men. If you search their website (Oasis health magazine) for marihuana you will see.
I have quoted studies that refute their statements, and they will not provide me with the studies that back their claims. Can you shed some light on the Mayo Clinic's less than truthfulness? Or are all the other sources being untruthful? This is quite a problem for those who think the Mayo is never wrong.Tom Suther A: Dear Mr. Suther: In the early 1970s two Harvard surgeons reported that adolescent males who used cannabis were more likely to get breast enlargement, a phenomenon which naturally and temporarily occurs infrequently during this period of hormonal change. A very large study conducted by the U.S. Army refuted the claim, as has every other study of it since. The myth that marihuana causes impotence is no longer spread even by the government or the Partnership for a Drug-free America. I have no idea why the Mayo Clinic clings to these outdated ideas, but it surely is a shame that it lends its name to misinformation.Sincerely yours,Lester Grinspoon, M.D.Breast Enlargementhttp://www.mayohealth.org/mayo/askphys/qa961004.htmImpotencyhttp://www.mayohealth.org/mayo/9709/htm/help.htm

Mayo Clinic
Re: Can you shed some light on the Mayo Clinic's less than truthfulness? Yes. I have had a med mal suit filed against Mayo for about two years. They have lied on numerous occasions, destroyed the instrument that infected me, altered medical records, destroyed medical records, captured my e-mail, etc.Their in-house attorney ownes an offshore, for-prifit insurance co. located in Bermuda (Mayo Ins. Co. Ltd) that never pays claims and rec. $500,000 a year in premiums. Also, Mayo's parent firm is an offshore, for-profit entity located in Nassau. BS.

Ask Dr. Grinspoon! Good Idea!
Thanks Rainbow,I know you have wanted to know the answer to that question since you first started posting here and finally getting some great answers! I really respect Dr. Grinspoon. I have heard him talk on a tv program and he is wise and a good man. Paranoia comes from fear of being arrested, not marijuana, I believe. Fear of going to jail is enough to set a person into a bad state and rightfully so. So that's not paranoia to me but having good common sense. When the laws are changed paranoia just won't happen, in my opinion.Peace, FoM

Paranoia
The newest one on their site is Marijuana causes paranoia.I wrote them and informed them that marijuana does not cause paranoia it is really the draconian laws in our society that causes paranoia. The Mayo clinic seems to be a real prohibitionists site.HUMM I think I will ask Dr. Grinspoon about paranoia too.Yes this is a fun spot in our effort. The editor of the Mayo site now knows that we are laughing.CheersRainbow

That is really cool that Dr. Grinspoon answered your question and I agree with Jean if it affected the size of womens breast it would have been packaged and marketed a long time ago! LOL!
