Thursday, October 21, 1999 1:31 PMJacki and Cheryl and his attorney are waiting at a nearby Capitol Police. Station for Jim's release. We gathered outside of Longworth this AM, and heard Bob Barr had been tipped off to our plans and had issued statement calling MPP's "use of patients" despicable.
In truth, it was patients and Jim being assisted by MPP. We headed into the building accompanied by Chuck Thomas and others from MPP and our counsel, Mr. Goldstone. Once in the elevator we removed outer clothing to reveal "Medical Marijuana User" t-shirts. We rolled to outside of Barr's office where Jim began speaking to the media, AP, Roll Call and others, security, and supporters about the plight of Cheryl and Barr's stance on MMJ. After a few minutes he removed Cheryl from the chair and placed her blocking the door to Barr's office on a sleeping bag, and sat next to her, flanked by Jacki & I. After speaking some more as police, media and myself and MPP snapping photos, police and men in medical lab coat type garb moved in. They told us if we didn't leave we would be arrested. Jacki and I then reluctantly left our comrades and rolled way down the hall where police directed us to go, our hearts heavy. Looking down the hall we saw them arresting Jim. We briefly popped in to Rep Tom Barrett's office and spoke with Ed, who we had talked to earlier in the week. After a few minutes we emerged and took some pictures and hung out trying to find out what happened. We were advised Jim Miller had been taken into custody, but that Cheryl was free to go. We then rolled over to the police station past the Library of Congress, Capitol, and Supreme Court to find out the status. At last word we heard he should be out soon, perhaps within minutes of writing this, and might possibly be able to settle with a citation. I have to go now and see if he has been released and get back with Cheryl & Jacki. Please post any articles you see about this and any media coverage seen to DPFWI, if you are a listmember. That's it for now! He did however have to put off Cheryl's dental work, and getting his used car insured etc... Nonetheless, all is going according to plan, and it looks like Bob Barr will be the most likely target for "Civil Disobedience".Civil Disobedience, man, I just love the way those two words go together.Pure Poetry!October 21st Update:http://www.cherylheart.org/Washington_Notes_1.html
