He's High On Plant

It's more than a cheap buzz - it's amazing!

What is cannabis? It depends on who you ask. To the farmer, it's a food and fibre crop. To the 19th-century physician, it was a valued medicine. To the modern doctor, it's suspicious because it comes in Ziploc bags, not gelatin capsules. To the police, it's a menace. To the drug dealer, it's a job. To the user, it's a euphoriant. To the parents of teenagers, it can lead to heroin.
To Dr. Rob, an employee at Montreal's only hemp shop, it's just about everything. "I eat hemp: hemp burgers, hemp milk, hemp seeds. I wear hemp: right now, I'm wearing a hemp hat, a hemp shirt, hemp pants and a hemp jacket. I use hemp soap - the kind with the seeds still in it. I even use hemp deodorant. "Hemp and pot are actually the same plant: cannabis. Hemp is cannabis with the THC removed. It's the THC that gets you high. Hemp is like Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band with John Lennon taken out- it's still a great band, but not the same. "Cannabis is an amazing plant. When you smoke pot, it reduces stress, enhances your creativity and makes you feel good. As a food, the proteins and essential oils in hempseeds are some of the most nutritious on Earth. "And as medicine, it's used for asthma, glaucoma, nausea, epilepsy, tumours, stress, migraine headaches, anorexia and depression. It really helps cancer patients and people with AIDS. "Guys come in the store, completely sick, saying 'Please. Help me. I've got AIDS. Where can I buy some pot?' One guy pulled about 30 bottles of pills out of his coat and threw them on the counter. He's like, 'Come on, man. I need something for the pain. I can't think. I can't move. I haven't eaten in three days.' "If I have any, I give it away. If you want to put me in jail for helping someone who's sick, go right ahead. "When you learn about the health benefits of cannabis, you start getting pissed off. You'll get pissed off because you realize you're being denied the privilege of this amazing plant. And that's just not right." - The hemp shop, Chanvre en Ville, is at 3418-A Park Ave. (514) 845-4993. - Monique Dykstra's E-mail address is: monique sprint.ca Thursday 7 October 1999Lifting The Haze - 10/07/99http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread3181.shtml

God's Greatest Gift To Mankind
The Powers That Be are vaguely aware of cannabis's potential...to compete against their vested interests in the alcohol, pharmacutical, medical, correctional and lumber industries. Can they truely believe the prohibitionist claptrap they all chirp. When it doesn't make sense, check the money angle.....If the world hadn't been lied to, it would know we would not have been able to create this civilization without the help of this herb.
