Lake County Sheriff's deputies literally followed a trail of marijuana to the leaders of a harvesting operation Thursday. After a neighbor tipped them off, deputies said they arrived at St. Helena Creek south of Middletown, where a bed of marijuana plants had just been harvested.
Once there, finding the people in charge of the operation was easy. ``We followed a well-worn path that contained abundant marijuana litter from the grow site to a nearby residence,'' said Sgt. David Garzoli. ``When we got there we contacted Antonio Negrette, who just happened to have a marijuana leaf stuck on the toe of his boot.'' Negrette, 33, was arrested along with Federico Negrette, 30, and Estephen Torres, 25, for harvesting about 100 pounds of pot. The high-grade marijuana had a street value of up to $640,000, according to Sgt. Pat McMahon. A number of weapons was also confiscated. Middletown is approximately 100 miles north of San Francisco.
