USA -- Most Americans believe marijuana use should be legal, according to a new survey.A new poll conducted by CBS News and released on Thursday — April 20, or 4/20 — found that 61 percent of Americans want marijuana to be legalized, a 5-point increase from the same poll last year and the highest percentage ever recorded in this poll.
Seventy-one percent said they opposed the federal government's efforts to stop marijuana sales in states that have legalized it. Sixty-five percent said they believe the drug is less dangerous than most other drugs.According to the poll, support for legalization has risen among all age groups, though mostly among those under 55. Support is also split among party lines. Most Democrats and independents increasingly support legalization, while Republicans are divided on the issue. In addition, more people say they have tried marijuana than before, with half of Americans saying they've used the drug at least once. The poll was conducted by phone from April 11 to 15, among a random sample of 1,011 adults across the U.S. It has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.CBS released the poll Thursday in honor of 4/20 or "Weed Day" — a day marijuana enthusiasts celebrate annually. Am I the only news hawk that has noticed
an uptick in negative studies and incidents being reported and coming up on news searches recently?
