Police have smoked out a West-Carleton marijuana crop worth an estimated $15 million. Regional police and the OPP announced yesterday they had seized some 15,000 marijuana plants, ranging in height from eight to 14 feet, from the rural property.
An assortment of cultivation equipment and materials, as well as three handguns and ammunition, were also confiscated during the bust. Police said the investigation is continuing and charges are expected. Meanwhile, Quebec police raided a rural Quebec home last night and netted 15 kg. of pot and seven grams of cocaine worth an estimated street value of $300,000. Weapons and various drug paraphernalia were also seized in the bust in La Peche, near Wakefield. Police arrested three males aged 23, 27 and 30 and a 30-year-old female. They face charges including possession of marijuana and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, cultivation of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and unsafe storage of weapons. Police said the seized marijuana was being dried and the cocaine was found divided among 40 separate plastic bags. The suspects were arrested without incident and remain in custody until a court appearance on Monday. September 11, 1999 Copyright © 1999, Quebecor New Media Limited Partnership
