EVANSVILLE, Ind.A Southern Indiana basketball player faces a felony charge of marijuana possession after his coach tipped off police.
Police said they found 85 grams of marijuana Thursday in a search of Demetrius Drew's on-campus apartment after coach Bruce Pearl told them they might find illegal drugs there. Drew, 26, locked himself inside a bedroom and then a bathroom, but police eventually found a clogged, overflowing toilet filled with marijuana. More was found inside a shaving kit in Drew's bedroom, the police said. Drew was being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail. If convicted of the charge, he could be sentenced to up to three years in prison. Drew joined the team a week ago after being out of basketball for four years. He last played at Central Missouri State, also a Division II school, in 1995, averaging 14 points and 7.5 rebounds.
