Providence, R.I. -- The crowd’s message was simple at a rally Saturday denouncing Governor Chafee’s decision not to issue licenses for medical-marijuana dispensaries.“He’s breaking the law, as far as we’re concerned,” said Peter Benson, who has used a wheelchair for 25 years after a spinal injury and said that only medical marijuana allowed him a night’s sleep uninterrupted by spasms.
Benson, of North Kingstown, was among more than 80 people who converged outside the State House to object to the governor’s announcement Thursday that he would not issue licenses to three dispensary applicants that the state Health Department had picked more than 150 days ago.“I’m totally embarrassed for the state,” Janice Peloquin, of Johnston, said of the governor’s decision.“He’s got to rethink the issue,” said Peter Hannon.People held signs bearing slogans such as “Compassion now,” “Meds over Feds” and “Chafee you’re breaking the law.”Chafee stated last week that it was a difficult decision but that giving the licenses would risk arrest and federal prosecution of dispensary owners and those affiliated with them. He said he could not carry out a “state marijuana cultivation and distribution system which is illegal under federal law, and which will become a target of federal law-enforcement efforts.” Federal actions, such as seizures, arrests and prosecutions, he said, “will only hurt the patients and caregivers that our law was designed to protect.”Rhode Island’s U.S. Attorney, Peter F. Neronha, indicated in a letter to Chafee earlier this year that should the governor issue licenses, those who run dispensaries and those affiliated with them could face criminal and civil action.Chafee stated that he wants to improve the medical-marijuana program, to have the General Assembly take up legislation in the next session to fix what he said are flaws. "We're not the Droids you're Looking For!"
Hats off to this group of Protesters! They have every right to be pissed. The State wants everyone to fit neatly into well labeled boxes, just don't rock the boat with the Feds. Providence has had enough corruption and Federal investigations to last a while yet. The last thing Chaffee wants is to pick up the phone and hear about a raid down at the beach, where the tourists go . . .The place used to be known as "Rhode Island and Providence Plantations", also it was a place where those oppressed by the Boston Puritans could go to seek the personal freedoms denied under "the original" Puritanical Rule. Ah, Freedom! Someday.
Go Ocean State!

I think this should go to court. We've been waiting for such an opportunity.

Fight fire with fire!
Oh, they can be vicious, that's true. Why do you think that I admire Che Guevara so much? Because he would put these misnathropes in their place, quickly and efficiently. Now, I know that you don't agree with those methods but, when all else fails, we must sometimes use desperate acts to teach these prohibitionists that we mean business. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

I think you must not know the same ones I know."TRust me, the Bible-thumpers are full of hot air and foul threats. When push comes to shove, Conservatives will back down in a minute!"The ones I know have a tendency to self righteous viciousness. Real viciousness.

Typical
"Chafee stated last week that it was a difficult decision but that giving the licenses would risk arrest and federal prosecution of dispensary owners and those affiliated with them. Federal actions, such as seizures, arrests and prosecutions, he said, 'will only hurt the patients and caregivers that our law was designed to protect'."Oh God, what a bunch of baloney! Who the hell does he think he's fooling with that crap? I guess that "Moderate" Democrats aren't the only Jellyfish when it comes to this issue. "Moderate" Republicans are just as easily spooked! When are the progressive politicians gonna stand up to these prohibitionist animals, and just say "Yeah, you're damn right that I smoke herb. What are you gonna do about it"?TRust me, the Bible-thumpers are full of hot air and foul threats. When push comes to shove, Conservatives will back down in a minute! Oh Che Guevara, where are you now that we need you?
