Texas -- When Willie Nelson found himself in trouble with the Internal Revenue Service in the 1990s, it nearly cost him everything he had. But now that country-music outlaw may be able to escape more recent legal troubles for little more than a song.Kit Bramblett, the county attorney for Hudspeth County in West Texas, where Mr. Nelson was arrested on a marijuana possession charge last year, has said he will allow Mr. Nelson to plead guilty to a misdemeanor count if he pays a small fine — and performs “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” in court.
“It’s the judge’s decision whether or not to approve it, but that’s what I would offer,” Mr. Bramblett said on Tuesday morning in a telephone interview. His proposed plea deal was first reported by The Big Bend Sentinel.“That’s the one I would request, and that would be his community service,” Mr. Bramblett said. “Most people that commit the kind of an offense that they allege he has committed don’t do any community service. Most of them are done by mail.”Mr. Nelson, whose albums include “Red Headed Stranger,” was arrested on Nov. 26 at a border stop in Sierra Blanca when a Border Patrol agent smelled marijuana on the musician’s tour bus. “Those checkpoints are the functional equivalent of the border,” Mr. Bramblett said, “so they search everything that goes through there. You have no right of privacy when you come to an international border.” About six ounces of marijuana was reported by agents to have been found on Mr. Nelson’s bus, an amount that would place the offense out of the county’s jurisdiction. But Mr. Bramblett said the initial weight included containers and paraphernalia (“that’s the stuff you smoke it in, or whatever, or a roach, whatever that is”), and that the total amount of the substance was about three ounces.Mr. Nelson was taken to a jail but not confined, and he signed a personal recognizance bond, agreeing to return to court to answer for a Class A misdemeanor.Mr. Bramblett, who described himself as a Willie Nelson fan, said he was not sure when Mr. Nelson might return to Hudspeth County for his proposed performance, and he seemed a bit baffled by all the fuss surrounding what he considered a routine marijuana bust.“I’m 78 years old, and I never fooled around with this stuff,” Mr. Bramblett said. “When I was a freshman at Texas A&M back in 1950, there were several large hemp plants growing in the botany laboratory. None of us Aggies knew that you could smoke the stuff. Today at Texas A&M, they don’t have any plants like that growing in the botany laboratory.”A publicist for Mr. Nelson declined to comment. From The New York Times BlogSource: New York Times (NY)Author: Dave ItzkoffPublished: March 29, 2011Copyright: 2011 The New York Times CompanyContact: letters nytimes.comWebsite: http://www.nytimes.com/URL: http://drugsense.org/url/1Ai3CHeECannabisNews -- Cannabis Archiveshttp://cannabisnews.com/news/list/cannabis.shtml

Yes, it leaned towards the prohibitionist side because they were belligerent and loud and that made the best TV. Our side isn't allowed to be that way. Our side is like the other civil rights battles where we march peacefully onwards while being mocked, spit on, marginalized and even having dogs used on us.I remember less than a decade ago where some in Congress were trying to make any mention of cannabis on the internet illegal. They controlled the discussion. We were held prisoner.Dr. Oz allowed an hour-long discussion on cannabis without a single law enforcement official involved. That is a huge step forward.Dr. Barthwell is as close as they came, but the truth is she worked with Dr. Ethan Russo and GW Pharmaceuticals and their whole-plant cannabis extract which was approved as medicine in many countries. It wasn't a synthetic THC or a selective extract, it was the WHOLE PLANT. That means the cannabis plant IS safe and effective medicine, the only difference is their delivery method. Their inhalation method is allowed but ours isn't. She proves our point and Montel tried to make that known. It could have gone better but the truth got out, along with the same old failed lies, and that is great news. The Reverend Bud Green

New News Person on MSNBC - Cenk Uygur
We never watch Fox News because of their political views but we watch MSNBC and CNN. If we could remove Fox from our DirecTV programming we would but it's in a package so it must stay. This person named Cenk Uygur is on MSNBC. He is really on the same side as us.Medical Benefits Of Marijuana - National Cancer Institute http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkMxrS8R_T8

It's good to see you. I don't get the channel that Dr. Oz is on but I did watch the video clips today. I felt from what I saw that it leaned more towards prohibitionist's views.

Excerpt: The potential benefits of medicinal Cannabis for people living with cancer include antiemetic effects, appetite stimulation, pain relief, and improved sleep.
In the practice of integrative oncology, the health care provider may recommend medicinal Cannabis not only for symptom management but also for its possible direct ANTI-TUMOR effect.

I did mean to copy and save it to my files though, because I figured it would be gone soon. Just checked and I must have procrastinated because I don't seem to have it.I knew they wouldn't leave it up. I just knew they wouldn't.

Great article
re: the NCI page, that is astonishing. It illustrates how the federal govt. has really replaced religious institutions in our lives. They govern by decree, with no regard for science or rationality. But it gets even more twisted in the USA, doesn't it? Here is an outstanding article talking about how the govt. pretty much forces toxic Tylenol on thousands of unwary pain-sufferers every year:http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/p-nu/201103/tylenol-and-the-war-drugs

Drug Testing In Florida
Does Rick Scott's Drug-Testing Policy Violate the 4th Amendment?March 29, 2011Last week, Florida Governor Rick Scott signed off on an executive order that requires that many state employees and job applicants submit to mandatory drug tests. He's also pushing state legislators to pass a bill that would subject welfare recipients to drug testing as well. But legal experts warn that Scott's heavy-handed measures may be unconstitutional. The Miami Herald reports:Miami Herald: http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/03/27/2137314/gov-rick-scotts-drug-testing-order.htmlURL: http://motherjones.com/mojo/2011/03/does-rick-scotts-drug-testing-policy-violate-4th-amendment

NCI Removed Anti-Tumor Properties
Cannabis, also known as marijuana, originated in Central Asia but is grown worldwide today. In the United States, it is a controlled substance and is classified as a Schedule I agent (a drug with increased potential for abuse and no known medical use). The Cannabis plant produces a resin containing psychoactive compounds called cannabinoids. The highest concentration of cannabinoids is found in the female flowers of the plant. As a botanical, Cannabis is difficult to study because of the lack of standardization of the botanical product due to the many climates and environments in which it is grown. Clinical trials conducted on medicinal Cannabis are limited. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved the use of Cannabis as a treatment for any medical condition. To conduct clinical drug research in the United States, researchers must file an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the FDA.The potential benefits of medicinal Cannabis for people living with cancer include antiemetic effects, appetite stimulation, pain relief, and improved sleep. Though no relevant surveys of practice patterns exist, it appears that physicians caring for cancer patients who prescribe medicinal Cannabis predominantly do so for symptom management.Cannabinoids are a group of terpenophenolic compounds found in Cannabis species (Cannabis sativa L. and Cannabis indica Lam.). This summary will review the role of Cannabis and the cannabinoids in the treatment of people with cancer and disease-related or treatment-related side effects.URL: http://drugsense.org/url/lHTrQpgB

Willy community service
Why not have Willie sing in public, in front of the courthouse for his community service? Then it can become a pro-cannabis rally.
