State police have seized about $254,000 worth of marijuana plants in Isabella, Bay and Midland counties as a result of helicopter searches this week.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration-funded effort will continue in mid-Michigan and statewide until October, said State Police 1st Lt. Kenneth G. Bennett, commander of the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team.HEMP - Help Eliminate Marijuana Production - annually uses National Guard and state police helicopters to search for marijuana plants.Thursday, police found 54 plants in Midland County in one spot, Bennett said. He said he couldn't give particulars on the location.In total, officers found 254 plants this week, Bennett said.All the plants stood at least 6 feet tall, he said."The weather has benefited marijuana plants too," he said.
