New Poll Shows CA Tilting Against Marijuana

Los Angeles -- As the nation’s first state vote on whether to legalize marijuana for recreational use nears, a new poll has introduced fresh uncertainty into the race. After weeks of riding a wave of positive poll results, supporters of Proposition 19 were handed a head-scratcher on Tuesday when a Reuters/lpsos poll found 53 percent of California voters opposed to the measure. The same polling company found voters nearly deadlocked on the issue in June. Also troubling for the "Yes on 19" side are media reports that it is out of money.
Opponents of marijuana legalization say the poll shows that Californians are turning against Prop. 19 as they learn more about it. Prop. 19 backers are painting the poll as an anomaly.Future polls should offer more insight into whether the Reuters/Ipsos poll is off base or whether it is picking up a shift in the race. “Either this poll is way off, or they are picking up something that no one else has so far," says Ethan Nadelmann, founder and executive director of Drug Policy Alliance, a national organization that backs legalizing and regulating marijuana. New Poll: Outlier or Indicator? He notes that a Sept. 21 California Field Poll, a Sept. 26 PPIC poll, and an Oct. 3 SurveyUSA poll all found more support than opposition for Prop. 19 among California voters. Proponents of Prop. 19 point out that the questions in the Reuters/Ipsos poll use different descriptions than the wording in the initiative itself. Moreover, they suggest that the small sample size of the poll may also have accounted for why the results differ from several others."All of the evidence points to this latest poll as being an outlier compared to all the others showing us ahead,” says Yes On 19 spokesman Tom Angell. The Reuters/Ipsos poll's findings on the two major political races in the election – for Senate and governor – also don’t square with the other polls, say backers. But opponents of legalization say the new poll results reflect the fact that 24 state newspapers have come out against Prop. 19 in recent weeks. “We feel these editorial positions are getting to the undecided voters,” says Roger Salazar, spokesman for the No On Proposition 19 campaign. “[Voters] held off making their decisions until they weighed the pros and cons and now have made up their minds.”As to the cash-flow question, Prop. 19 hasn't drawn the kind of heavy money that usually infuses issues campaigns. Just $2.5 million has been raised on both sides, according to Kim Alexander of the California Voter Foundation, with the “yes” campaign raising nearly $10 for every $1 brought in by the opposition.Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz recently gave $50,000 to the pro-legalization campaign, but otherwise it is relying on an animated force of volunteers and hundreds of smaller donations. Can Prop. 19 Work? Meanwhile, both sides are trying to address the issue of how the proposition might be implemented if it passes. On Wednesday Assemblyman Tom Ammiano introduced legislation that would establish a uniform statewide regulatory system for marijuana under the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The bill would leave cities and counties the option to regulate marijuana sales themselves. The bill undercuts several assertions by Prop. 19 opponents, says Mr. Angell of Yes On 19. First, “that the money generated by marijuana sales won’t make it to the state,” he says. And second, that "this is a regulatory nightmare, because it creates so many different regulatory bodies.” Cities have already begun to take up these questions. In anticipation of Prop. 19 passing, nine California cities – including San Jose, Stockton, Oakland, and Sacramento – have initiatives on the Nov. 2 ballot asking voters to decide about specific taxation rates for marijuana. But opponents of legalization aren't placated by those arguments. “They’re trying to tell the people, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll fix this later,’ ” says No On 19's Mr. Salazar. “They know the public isn’t buying their regulatory scheme." While supporters of Prop. 19 claim the measure will generate $1.4 billion for state coffers, Salazer points to the California State Board of Equalization’s updated analysis of Prop. 19, which refutes those claims. The study concludes: “It is not possible to estimate the potential revenue gain” of Prop. 19. Those findings have provided the “no” forces with the confidence they say they need down the stretch.“We are ... talking to the public up and down the state because we feel that if they get the right information about this initiative, they will vote no,” says Salazar.Source: Christian Science Monitor (US)Author: Daniel B. It's hard. Life is hard.... but I can do it.We have lots of folks that read and comment here that have some hard struggles going on. Some really hard struggles. AIDS and MS are a couple of things that come to mind. Life is about surviving and doing the best we can. We're survivors and we struggle for what's right, I believe. All of us.

How could they do that???
Re #39It came from down from a select few that just happen to be sitting in the right place to wield their false power over others...In other words...They used their authority in a very wrong way to squelch the process...So the King sent his men out...and they told everybody that that area cannot be used for that purpose and were ordered to remove the signs a banners. If there was a card carrying (BARR member) lawyer/liar on the scene...maybe it would have turned out different. There is more to it than what I can cover right now...It ain’t over till it’s over...

I post this message with respect, not to be confrontational.“” There is one person here who has always been confrontational and offensive to me in their comments and interactions. They have been incapable of positive interaction with me.””It takes two (or more) to communicate.Maybe...just maybe...You might be taking this stuff a little too much on the sensitive side??? Surely your skin is thicker than most...Hearing different points of views from different areas is a healthy thing...do you not agree???So maybe lighten up a bit..Kick back...and absorb the knowledge that comes from all.

How could they legally do that?
"The set up People United For Medical Marijuana (PUFMM) had for that bike fest just got shut down by the authorities...they trampled all over peoples civil rights in the process."That's awful! From what I hear of Florida and what I see in the way of governing there... there is a big gap between the governing and what most of the people seem to want, it seems. I suspect a lot of it comes from the politician purchasing power of Mel Sembler and his attendant slaves that pander to his every prohibitionist wish and whim. I think that Sembler bunch has way too much power over the people in Florida.

Sent many astro-vibes your way. I’m sure others have too.The Great Sprit will never give us more than we can deal with.On another note...The set up People United For Medical Marijuana (PUFMM) had for that bike fest just got shut down by the authorities...they trampled all over peoples civil rights in the process...But it is not over yet...They can shut down the booth, but they can’t shut down the people. I predict that many completed and signed petitions will be gathered this weekend from that place. There is a silver lining in every dark cloud if you look hard enough to see it.The silver lining here is...Their actions just casehardened the already steeled resolve of many...

Facebook Co-Founder Gives $100K To Pro-Pot Measure
By Marcus Wohlsen, Associated Press WriterFriday, October 8, 2010 San Francisco, CA -- California's ballot measure to legalize marijuana has a new friend: Facebook co-founder Sean Parker has given $100,000 to back the proposal.Parker's donation was reported in Proposition 19 campaign finance filings this week. And he's not the first big Proposition 19 donor with ties to the social networking site. Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz has given $70,000.Neither Parker nor Moskovitz are still with the Palo Alto-based company, but both still have ownership stakes. The only other six-figure donation - also $100,000 - comes from adult entertainment entrepreneur Phil Harvey. The measure's sponsor, Oakland medical marijuana entrepreneur Richard Lee, has given about $1.5 million of the $2.4 million raised in support of Proposition 19 so far.Copyright: 2010 Associated Press

I have never called anyone names but I have been called names by this person on numerous occasions. By saying, "well, maybe one" I was trying to use a bit of humor I thought most would get.Everyone else here has always been a pleasure to exchange with. Some have misinterpreted my words on occasion but that is a byproduct of the written word rather than a personal interaction.I know my beliefs are controversial and I never delve into religious issues unless someone sets the stage with proclaiming their beliefs as absolute truth. That offends me.

You are allowed your opinion but you have misread my intent.Anything that is not provable to me is superstition.Maybe you are substituting your own prejudices when interpreting my words. The dictionary defines superstition as "Any belief, practice, or rite unreasonably upheld by faith in magic, chance, or dogma."Dogma as defined by the dictionary is, "A system of doctrines proclaimed by a church."In my opinion that even includes a church of one.The whole Christ story to me is unreasonable and I base that on the bible itself.I never dismissed your beliefs."To shut anyone down as some sort of idiot is not the way to have a mature discussion."I don't see where I did this at all."As a believer, you can say I'm superstitious if you want to dismiss me."Superstition is a word like ignorant. Some people take offense at it if they don't look at its true meaning. To call someone ignorant is not an insult but merely describing their lack of facts.I have not called anyone ignorant or implied they are an idiot. You have misinterpreted superstition as a negative word which is not my intent or the real meaning of the word.It does describe a belief in something that cannot be proven, measured or quantified.I have not called anyone names.I am feeling a lot of negative energy from those that believe in the prince of peace. For the third time..."I think each person gets to decide their own approach to spirituality. If a person believes the Christ story, then by all means keep on believing.Positive energy can be accessed in a myriad of ways."

Having Faith
I have always had a strong faith and believe in miracles. Here is an example that happened recently. The day before my niece passed away we were getting ready to go up to see her one more time. We had a problem with our well and didn't have any water. To make a long story short we had knocked off a breaker to figure out what was wrong. We checked everything. I got so depressed because we had to stop to fix the well. We called a person to help with pulling the pump out of the ground assuming the pump died. I said a little prayer that went like this. God I know Marty's life is almost over and this problem is the worst possible timing for a pump to fail. I did the silly thing and said God please fix it. I went to turn on the clothes dryer and it didn't work and I told my husband the dryer isn't working now. He went down stairs and switched more breakers and the dryer started and the water came back. If I hadn't checked the dryer I wouldn't have seen Marty one more time. That was an important miracle for me.

This is a good thread
I like reading what people are thinking and feeling about this stuff. I like what Museman and Garry Minor said as far as how I feel about it. I like hearing what we all think about it and the non believer and the believer stuff and what you believe or don't believe. I may not agree and it may not be my experience... but it's yours and you are my friends and cohorts in stomping down the injustice. This is a conversation. A discussion. A sharing. To shut anyone down as some sort of idiot is not the way to have a mature discussion. But the way you expressed your opinion was rude, Paint with light. I was surprised at that. Even disagreeing, even disagreeing about about things like politics and religion, we don't have to be rude, especially to our friends and allies. Maybe you were having a bad day. But that bit about the superstition and don't bore me was rude and offensive and meant to shut everyone down... and make them mad, Paint with light. You were painting with darkness with that one, friend. As a believer, you can say I'm superstitious if you want to dismiss me. Fine. Although I try not to be "superstitious"... I can understand where a lot of superstition comes from and how it happens. Spend some time watching the Marfa Lights or experiencing poltergeist activity, sometimes, if you want to see how superstitions can come about. Science hasn't explained the Marfa lights any better than superstition has. It's still in the vicinity of wonders that we don't understand yet. But I have had real experiences that made me believe what I believe. It was and is real. You don't have to believe me. You should wonder. But because you didn't see or experience exactly like I did doesn't mean that it was an imaginary or hallucinatory experience or that I'm lying to you. There are invisible, spiritual, and sometimes spooky and mysterious things that happen in this world and in the known univers. Some things we can bring to light with microscopes and science and fantastic machines... some things we can't. And some things that I experience, I just can't relate to you in a believable and acceptable, for you, way.

PWL--- Christ is Anointed
I'll try and keep this simple.You said;
"I would like to see anybody try to prove their beliefs.
No, I take that back, don't bore me with your superstitions."It isn't a superstition that the title "Christ/Messiah" means literally covered in oil, Anointed. It's a fact!It isn't a superstition that there are 250 shekels of cannabis (kaneh bosm) in the oil God instructed Moses to make to anoint all Priests, and later kings and prophets, for all generations to come, including that of Yeshua and even today. That's what the Book says.It isn't a superstition that Yeshua came to begin a new covenant, a chosen people, a royal Priesthood, a Holy Nation. That's also what the Book says.
Remember, Priests are to be Anointed with oil.
Ex 40:12-16, 1 Peter 2:4-10, Rev 1:6, 5:10, 20:6.It isn't a superstition that the early churches anointed with oil. Mark 6:12-13, 1John 2:18-29, James 5:14, Gospel of Philip, etc......Therefore, the True Christ, with his Chrism, cures cancer, kills MRSA, promotes the growth of brain cells, inhibits Alzheimers, and, safely treats MS, ALS, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, epilepsy, autism, diabetes, obesity, depression, stroke, tuberculosis, lupus, nausea, migraine, arthritis, alcoholism, drug addiction, cystic fibrosis, anxiety, glaucoma, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, asthma, emphysema, anorexia, muscular dystrophy, meningitis, flu, gut and eating disorders, herpes, Huntingtons, Tourettes, Parkinsons, Crohns disease, and many more.
The True Christ gives us the single most nutritionally complete food source on the planet with the kaneh seed.
The True Christ gives freely of the Tree of Life to produce over 25,000 earth friendly products.
I could go on and on and on, but, I believe that a cure for cancer is a miracle in todays world.
For over seventy years the most useful plant on the planet and the Way to the Kingdom of Heaven has been illegal. No one can tell me that to have a society brainwashed to believe such a thing is not a curse! Rev 13.The testimony of Yeshua is the Spirit of prophesy.
Food, fuel, shelter, medicine, pleasure, Spirituality, Unity.
The leaves of the Tree are for the healing of the nations.
No longer will there be any curse.ps- Try painting with this Light....Through the Holy Spirit we are indeed begotten again, but we are begotten through Christ in the two. We are Anointed through the Spirit. When we were begotten, we were united. None can see himself either in water or a mirror without light. Nor again can you see in light without mirror or water. For this reason it is fitting to baptize in the two, in the light and the water. Now the Light is the Chrism.
John 3:19-21
“This is the verdict: Light has come into this world, but men loved darkness instead of Light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and will not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the TRUTH comes into the Light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”God is illegal

Religion, Truth, and Spirituality
A 'religion' does not need a 'registered' name to be an object of worship. There are religions of one.Truth is. Was before any of us came here, and will be after we are gone. It belongs to no one, and no one, and no group, has exclusive access to it. It can be denied or embraced, but it cannot be modified or changed, except in growth of understanding.Spirituality is the self-honest seeking after truth."Religions are the opiate of the people." a renowned author once stated."The waters that an insane man are drowning in, are the very waters that the spiritual man swims in." -another renowned author.Ignorance is its own wall against truth. No battering Ram will break it, for the ability of one individual to deny Truth is evident in the social groups that reinforce the ignorance -like religions, academics, and politics.Liberty is a gift from our Creator. I guess if one has no idea what that really means, then we can hardly expect them to extend that liberty to others, or even know what it really means -in terms of their own personal responsibilities, and we can expect things like name calling, lies and hyperbole, disrespect for knowledge, disdain for truth, and a general negative aspect that cannot be painted over, no matter how much whitewash is used.My liberty, and the taking of it, has never been at the expense of anyone else's, quite the contrary. I have gone out of my way to avoid conflict with those who for no other reason than ignorance -that I can see- have personal issues with the fact that they haven't the initiative or gumption to take their own liberty, so they design to limit others.Yet these inflated powers have busted down my door, held my children at gunpoint, destroyed what little property I have had, and caused me to waste much time in my life defending these rights.I am not concerned with repetitive platitudes that have been dredged up from the adolescent High School 'put down' club, there are words that have meaning, and those that only spew unoriginal thought that leaves no room for growth and true understanding. Those who can recognize the truth, are my fellows, those who deny it for some perceived ego trip of personal bleeding wounds, just won't get it no matter what truths are stated, how they are stated, or 'who' states them -well maybe who, since followers need leaders to mitigate their deep (but unaware) intuitive feelings of being so lost. But of course, such lost minds do not believe in the very things that can illuminate their true place in the universe.Such a waste. But there has never been a shortage of ignorance. Some lyrics, sorry no recording available at this time.SONG TO THE BADGUYSNo one’s song was ever good enough,
To set you straight towards the light of day,
No ones voice spoke enough of Love,
To let you see it was the only way.
No one’s blood could wash away your fear,
Though you come seeking it with cup in hand.
No one’s prayer ever made you clear
To see the truth living in every land.
But you can dance the night away, your way,
Make believe that the music makes you smile for awhile,And pretend that freedom is a word that you heard.
Well you talk about your evil laws,
Like they were handed down to you from God,
You’re so mighty when you push the weak,
Don’t you think that’s just a little odd?
Still you persecute the holy child,
Like a shroud to his early grave,
And having nothing you’d like to claim it all,
Telling me, you’re whom God prefers to save.
Well you can dance the night away, your way,
Make believe that the music makes you smile for a while,And pretend you’re forgiven for the price we pay?No Way!
No one’s story was a tellin’ tale,
Though it’s written in the very stone,No one’s love could melt your empty heart,
Though your end will be all your own.
And you can dance the night away, your way,
Make believe that the music makes you smile for awhile,And pretend that freedom is a word that you heard.
Yes you can dance the night away, your way,
Make believe that the music makes you smile for awhile,And pretend you’re forgiven for the price we pay?
   No Way!LEGALIZE FREEDOM

I am calm.I just said......I think each person gets to decide their own approach to spirituality. If a person believes the Christ story, then by all means keep on believing.Positive energy can be accessed in a myriad of ways.Legal like alcohol.

Calm down my friend, I see no one hawking god shares around here!Even if they were, theology is a cosmic Smorgasbord, take what appeals and leave the rest!

In case someone doesn't understand
I am not trying to offend anyone's beliefs, well maybe one.I think each person gets to decide their own approach to spirituality. If a person believes the Christ story, then by all means keep on believing.Positive energy can be accessed in a myriad of ways.Just don't declare your own little twist of facts and fables to be truth for anyone but yourself.Legal like alcohol.

I repeat
"I don't care what anybody calls their imaginary friend as long as they don't try to push it on me or declare it as anything other than their own personal truth."I would like to see anybody try to prove their beliefs. No, I take that back, don't bore me with your superstitions.I guess freedom of religion isn't a freedom some people endorse.Legal like alcohol.

it 'may concern' us all
The same reasons, in spirit and attitude that crucified Yashua, created the society and conditions that are now responsible for suffering on a grand scale. The callousness of Rome has been resurrected in modern America, and most of the rest of the world is closely following. Some, in circles not publicized, have speculated on the phenomenon of the "Collective Messiah." If one is able to take it all in context, one can easily see how the persecution of persons who hold the Truth in highest priority, is at the root of all suppression of personal liberties -in any time of history- and though death and torture is the extreme example, the rulers of this world have had eons to sophisticate their methods. Sovereign liberty of personal being; that is the goal of freedom seeking people. Of course the ruling factions, the 'leaders' have claimed since Sumeria that the 'rabble' (the people) aren't capable of anything but servicing their kings and princes."The 'superior man' has privilege, and that is his 'divine right' due to heritage and bloodline." - mongrel races need not apply.Yashua predicted that, in the last days -before time ran out- (like the Mayan Calendar) there would be those who would "do greater things than these." -meaning his own great works.Well while everyone was looking for miracles as a 'sign' or something, the filling up of that Spirit happened quietly, softly, and unnoticed by all but the few who were really paying attention (kind of like a 'thief in the night').The powers have lashed out blindly, like their historical counterparts, to attempt to destroy the embryonic 'christ' consciousness that has come and walks among us. One of their biggest modern efforts is prohibition. Because there is a little known scripture, or prophecy which talks about how the 'elect would not stop smoking 'flek'' sometimes referred to as flax, but we all know it as 'Kaneh Bosm' or cannabis.Ridicule is the tool of ignorance, contention is the spirit of war and destruction is in its heart. Accusation is the spirit of Satan, and judgement is his child. Those who accuse and judge do so at the peril of their eternal being. And though they may laugh or mock, because they cannot believe, life is very short, and eternity is very long.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofzCZiQ9vjALEGALIZE FREEDOM!

Followers of the Flock...???
Christian Soldiers...‘March on Christian Soldiers’...But beware of who you follow, as your ‘leaders', will march you right off the cliff. In the process they will pick your pockets dry of coin, and rape both your sons and daughters on the way over the edge.************Something else I’ve thought of for some time now...If Jesus Christ were to physically appear in today’s world...He would scare the ‘Modern Day Romans’ so much, that they would end up sentencing him to be executed by strapping him to the cross shaped gurney and receive a lethal injection (modern day crucifixion)...Of course they would wash their hands afterward, then let others think it was out of their hands, and was the proper thing to do.************Bob Marley... To whom it may concern;
I am not really an atheist exactly...more like, I believe in an impersonal god force. I don't believe in any religion and I believe in many whom I view as enlightened souls.I see the path laid out by Yeshua [Jesus] as the best formula for human co-occupation of the planet and general interaction. He is the highest person in my experience. To whom it may concern?

Poll
I wonder where they took this poll?
Probably from older women in Palm Desert.Well, let's prove them wrong. I am so ready to cast my YES vote, and wallow in glory. I just keep thinking about how much MARIJUANA I'm going to GROW! That is what I do, and that is what I'm going to do until I'm 100! So take that all you rotten cops, jailers and judges who subsist off the misery of this failed war on MARIJUANA!!
