Sacramento, CA -- Voters are poised to reject a ballot measure to legalize adults' recreational use of marijuana in California and another that would suspend the state's landmark greenhouse gas reduction law, according to a Field Poll of to be released today. The poll, which also shows that likely November voters strongly support a measure to make it easier for the Legislature to pass a budget, marks a key starting point for the final months of campaigning. For measures that are trailing, it will be a tough fight to win, said Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll.
"Historically, for measures that don't start out with a lead, the chances of passage are much lower than those that start out with a lead," DiCamillo said. "If they start out behind, history suggests a 10 to 15 percent chance of passing. Some do, but it's very rare."The poll asked likely voters about four of the 10 measures on the Nov. 2 ballot. The most high-profile measure on the ballot - Proposition 19, the marijuana initiative - is opposed by 48 percent of likely voters, while 44 percent support it. Eight percent are undecided, and it is winning only among Democrats, people in the Bay Area and young voters. The measure would allow adults 21 and older to cultivate, possess and transport marijuana for personal use. Local governments would be permitted to tax and regulate the production and sale of marijuana. It would still be illegal under federal law."It's going to be a fairly tough sell," DiCamillo said. And even among young voters, it is only winning among white people, while a majority of nonwhite young people oppose it, according to the poll. Likely Voters
What a hoax. Remember how they were calling McCain the next President in October? And other polls show that a lot of Republicans are for the measure. Get your facts straight.

Poll
"The poll was based on interviews of 1,005 likely voters conducted between June 22 and July 5. The results of questions posed to all respondents have a 3.2 percent margin of error."

I've rarely asked for much from hollywood, but god would I love to see the stars lined up in support of this bill and just ram it right through!

What Poll?
What poll is this? Every other poll puts the percentage of support for the pro-legalization measure at 56%. Frankly, I think that this poll is bull, a creation of some anti-marijuana knuckleheads that (not so) secretly wish to change the numbers. Remember when, a few weeks ago, that the "Paragon of Virtue", William "I never smoked a joint in my life" Bennett said: "we have to go to California to bring the numbers down"? That's the Conservatives'game plan: to spread their lies and influence voters.Just look at how the article begins:"Voters are poised to reject a ballot measure to legalize adults' recreational use of marijuana in California".The "author" is already trying to frame the issue. And what about this junk, "And even among young voters, it is only winning among white people, while a majority of nonwhite young people oppose it, according to the poll".I am Italian, but I grew up in a mostly Black and Puerto Rican neighborhood. Let me tell you that compared to whites, Blacks and Puerto Ricans (Mexican-Americans too), smoke a LOT MORE reefer. Every one that I've ever known, outside of the Born-again "Christians" that is, supports legalization, ALL OF THEM! So, that "poll" is pure garbage!
