Will Feds Allow State Pot Laws?

Editorial
Source: Denver Post
Colorado -- Now that Colorado is poised to begin regulating medical marijuana dispensaries, it makes sense to consider how the potential state law jibes with the long arm of federal law.Though President Obama's administration is taking a tolerant view toward the 14 states with medical pot laws, future administrations might decide to strictly enforce federal laws, which don't recognize the drug as anything other than illegal.
Colorado's Rep. Jared Polis, D-Boulder, has co-sponsored a measure that says as long as the doctors who prescribe, patients who use, dispensaries that sell and growers that provide medical marijuana follow state laws, federal drug agents would not be allowed to arrest or charge them with drug crimes. That's an important exception to make because unless Gov. Bill Ritter surprises lawmakers with a veto, Colorado is on its way to sanctioning dispensaries and creating a vast new regulatory framework for the burgeoning new industry. We don't think the dispensary model was what voters had in mind when they legalized medical marijuana in 2000. But though we have expressed several misgivings toward the proposed medical marijuana law, it would be highly improper and destructive for the federal government to undermine it.Polis' measure, HR 2835, also would downgrade marijuana within the rubric of the Controlled Substances Act from Schedule I to Schedule II — an unnecessary provision that will only heighten the opposition from states without medical marijuana laws. The measure, co-sponsored by Rep. Barney Frank of Massachusetts, doesn't prevent federal drug agents from conducting investigations and arresting bad actors. Federal charges still could be brought against those who break state rules. Rather, the measure would simply recognize the will of the people in states that have allowed use of medical marijuana. Hope #26 Bullies...
My dear departed father always taught me to never be bullied by someone regardless of how much bigger they are than me...He told me something I will always remember...The bigger they are...The harder they will fall...I’ve witnessed that fact...on more than just a few occasions...And I/we witness this again...Well...Our boy Souder...was a big bully...and he just took a hard fall...Thanks Dad...for passing as much wisdom that you could on to me that I was willing to receive at the time...Souder???...Well...You just got a good punch in the nose...SEE YA!!! Good riddance...and on your way out the prohibitionist door...give my regards to your bride that you exchanged vows with and made promises to...In front of witnesses......Double SEE YA!!!And Mr. Souder...You must feel proud of yourself for seeing so many people joyous over your downfall...of your own doings...

Mark Souder in the news
I see you have all heard the story. Can this get any stranger? Republican Congress Mark Souder, Drug Warrior and upholder of conservative family values, announced today that he is resigning from Congress effective this Friday due to the fact that it was found out that he was having an affair with a staffer. He is all ashamed and contrite now ‘cause he got caught. He has been brought down by his own hypocrisy, arrogance and cruelty. No one escapes Karma.

Bullying so fast forward he does a segement on drugs which has Kruthammer defending the upcomming cannabis law in CA which he says should be a test case while Billo is saying that

I can tell you are happy. I am not angry with Souder. I have always believed that the most judgmental people are the most unhappy. They see the short comings in themselves and figure if they keep on swinging at their own demons maybe they will change. Maybe I'm wrong but I do pity more then anything. He says he is a Christian. He should know he shouldn't throw stones but self examine why he picks on those he has power over by just being a politician.

I'm glad he's leaving office...
but I feel a bit bad for him. He's failed himself and his God miserably. Miserably. He'll have to realize he's not as perfect as he thought he was. He'll have to realize he was a punishing and cruel man.I don't care to hear anything about any epiphanies he gets. I don't care to hear any explanations. I want him to leave government and stop hurting people out of proportion to the "sins" he deems them to have committed in his sight. It's not easy to talk about it... about him and his cruel expectations and hysterical hatred in these matters. Anyway, the mighty have fallen. It had to happen. He was breaking all the suggestions, not rules, of his religion. Just about every one I can think of in the way he treated people about using "Illicit drugs" and God knows what else. The way he sneered and mocked. Brrr. If he's lucky, he may just get the snot shook out of him."

I know, rchandar, Souder is drug war scum
Just look at all of the moralists who get caught cheating on their wives. Look at all of the preachers getting caught cheating with women and men. Look at George Alan Rekers, co-founder of James Dobson's conservative Family Research Council, a supposed expert who testifies that he can cure "the gay," who recently got caught vacationing in Europe with a male "escort" hired from Rentboy.com.Is it really too much of a stretch to assume that there are similar nefarious intentions and actions in the war on drugs? The Reverend Bud Green

I don't know about THAT, it may be true. I'm pumped up, though, that Souder has now been seen in his true light--as a political extortionist who succumbed to his lusts. For those of you who don't know, Souder is one of the plates of armor in WoD. Consistent supporter of mandatory minimums and "tough on drugs" legislation and policy. On a depressing, hot day in the tropics, I broke a smile--for once. We wanted this one for a long, long time. God Bless.--rchandar

I wonder??????????
Since many, many of the loudest and rabid anti-gay crusaders are really themselves closeted gays, and since so many of the so-called "pro-family" crusaders get caught literally with their pants down, I believe we can intelligently extrapolate this psychological phenomenon to the drug war.Based on my observations of the responses to other so-called "cultural" battles, I would argue that most if not all of the anti-drug crusaders are closeted coke heads or pill poppers. Many would scoff at my hypothesis, but based on a sustained and verifiable tract record of these crusaders, there is at least the plausibility of a correlation if not a cause and effect evident in their actions.I don't know how anybody in their right mind could find any justification for their own actions based on their ability to inflict suffering on others for doing the EXACT SAME THING!They must just be very sick people. Too bad they are also our rulers. :(The Reverend Bud Green

Thank you. I just got back inside from watching her explore everything in the backyard. Jumping in tall grass. Running behind a ladder that is propped up against the house. Jumping in puddles. She got out thru the board fence this morning so Stick and I were out in thr rain tacking up wire. If there is a way out they will find it. Rotties grow so fast she won't be able to slip out for very long. LOL!

OT: Mark Souder to resign.
Glad to see this drug warrior go. Don.t let the door hit you in the rear. Eight-term Rep. Mark Souder will announce his resignation Tuesday after it came to light that he was conducting an affair with a female staffer who worked in his district office, Fox News has learned.Multiple senior House sources indicated that the extent of the affair would have landed Souder before the House Ethics Committee.Elected as a family values conservative as part of the Republican revolution in 1994, Souder survived a tough re-election challenge in 2008 and survived a contested primary two weeks ago.Souder was absent from Washington most of last week, missing multiple votes and only voting on Thursday.Souder's resignation would make him the second lawmaker to step down in less than two months. In March, former Rep. Eric Massa, D-N.Y., resigned amid allegations that he sexually harassed male staffers. Massa's case is now before the House Ethics Committee.
