Legislature Should Clear Up Pot Law

Colorado -- Gov. Bill Ritter, in his last State of the State address on Thursday, urged lawmakers to regulate medical marijuana, which is legal in Colorado. This was met with profane resistance from a pro-pot lawyer -- saying lawmakers should, in essence, be kissing the pot advocates` cheeks, and not the ones on their faces. It seems weekly, we are treated with various crimes related to stealing or some violence at medical pot providers. An eccentric local pot provider -- "Dr. Reefer" -- had a break in recently by a transient, whom he said he detained with the help of some smooth moves he said he learned in prison.
Instead of talking about the compassionate care of suffering people, regrettably the headlines are about bombastic lawyers and ex-con pot growers. Here`s the real news: There are more than 80 medical marijuana facilities in the City of Boulder alone, and they are particularly concentrated downtown and on the Hill. We are hard-pressed to think this is exactly what voters had in mind, when they approved pot use by sick people. Surprisingly, many outspoken pro-pot advocates seem to be protesting any regulations at all. And they say that the legal, licensed sale of alcohol is much more prevalent. There`s a huge difference though: The marijuana law was passed for use by those who need it for medical purposes. Alcohol -- though oft abused by many who "self-medicate" -- is not considered medicine, nor prescribed for common ailments. It is regulated, mostly by the state but also by local municipalities. Together, they decide who can buy it (those over 21 years of age), where they can buy it (beer here, whiskey there, both in eateries and bars that are licensed), and how much is too much for certain activities, like driving. The federal government classifies marijuana as an illegal drug, despite the march of medical marijuana laws around the country, and despite its recent decriminalization in Breckenridge. We maintain that perhaps it would be more useful to decriminalize it, and regulate it and tax it, like alcohol. But: That`s not what happened, despite what the free-for-all medical marijuana advocates seem to want. Colorado voters threw their support behind pot for medical uses, such as treating glaucoma and debilitating pain. And now we`ve got a map of perhaps more than 80 "medical" establishments in Boulder alone, piled up in tight proximity all over town. Which must mean our municipality, but especially the youth-centric Hill, must be one of the sickest, most pain-ridden populations around. The governor is right: Medical marijuana needs to be regulated. And those resisting it risk a backlash by lawmakers that would curtail the very compassionate care they profess to support. I tried to find her info on CNews and I couldn't find anything. I'm not comfortable posting my e-mail so I can't figure out how to do it. Does she have a public e-mail address?

Let me think how this could be done. I can look and try to find her registration on CNews and try that e-mail if I can find it. Then she would have my e-mail. I haven't ever posted on facebook so I really don't know how it works.
