SAN FRANCISCOPro-marijuana advocates launched the first phase of what they hope will be a national advertising campaign Monday, unveiling 30 billboards around San Francisco asking pot smokers to "Honk if You Inhale".
"Around 12 million adult Americans smoke pot regularly in their homes and still hold down demanding jobs, raise families and lead productive lives," said Keith Stroup, executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML).The advertising campaign is aimed at encouraging these marijuana users to come out into the open and join the fight to legalize the drug, he said.NORML's billboards, going up in bus shelters around the city, also feature the slogan "A Pot Smoker is Busted Every 45 Seconds -- and You Wonder Why We're Paranoid".The $30,000 campaign is being test marketed in marijuana-friendly San Francisco, and NORML has budgeted an additional $70,000 in hopes of launching it in other cities and attracting funding for more ads, Stroup said."Obviously if we're going to have an impact we're going to need a lot more money," he said. "This is is going to be the most outfront, aggressive, pro-decriminilization message that anyone has seen in 20 years."Updated 4:30 PM ET August 16, 1999REUTERS http://www.norml.org/

Congress democracy busters
Now let's see how Hatch and Fienstein react with a bill to punish everyone who honks or knowing honks or thinks they want to honk. This will be great anybody who links to the billboards will be prosecuted for excersizing their First amendment of free Speech.I can't wait for the politicians to knee jerk this effort and they will.Maybe billboards will be outlawed.CheersRainbowP.S. My car doesn't honk it beeps so I guess it will be okay I am safe from the politicians on this one :-)

Go NORML!!
Think of the enormous budget DARE, and other anti-marijuana groups spend on spewing garbage about cannabis use. Now, if the pro-ganja groups just had a tenth of that, I'm certain these rotten laws would be changed. Hemp hemp hooray for NORML, and I hope we keep on honking, and remember- good shall prevail.Dr. Ganj

Keep on Honking!
Believe me I have had my run through the system.....still on probation for it too...For 3 grams I got 30 days in jail, 2 months on home confinement, 2 years of probation and 250 hours of community service.....that was the max for "possession"...That is what makes me paranoid. But I have to admit, if I see a sign I will Honk in spite of all of this...but because of this I am sure that is why I am paranoid.

Honking
UaN... I loved your comment. But that is the problem...too many are parinoid and not willing to stand against the governmental forces that have kept the "madness" thriving. I know it's difficult to make a stand, but I can guarentee that if you have one session through the judicial system you will no longer be fearful. You will be angry and feel betrayed by your country and then you will want to speak your mind and join in loudly with all the others that have found out the truth. When I see one... I'll honk like hell!!!!!

Honk, Honk, Honk!!!!!
The police will turn this wonderful idea around to their benefit by parking under the sign and waiting for people to Honk and then pull them over and call Honking "probable cause" to search...sorry to rain on the parade, but I guess I am paranoid.
