Trenton, NJ -- Gov. Jon S. Corzine said Tuesday that he supports and would sign a bill allowing medicinal marijuana use, but added that economic issues are his top priority."I don't think that we ought to be having fights on issues that don't go to the heart of the needs of a broad majority of folks," Corzine told reporters Tuesday afternoon. "I think that this is one that if it can be moved expeditiously because there's a consensus, I think that's great. I have studied the issue and I think that if properly structured, it's an initiative that's sensible."
The Compassionate Use Medicinal Marijuana Act would allow state-licensed patients to possess as much as 1 ounce of marijuana and six plants for medical treatment. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Jim Whelan, D-Atlantic, and Nicholas Scutari, D-Middlesex, Somerset, Union, also would create Medicinal Marijuana Alternate Treatment Centers. The possession and distribution of marijuana would remain illegal under federal law, but advocates said it would essentially decriminalize that, because most prosecutions are under state laws. The state Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee approved the bill by a 6-1 vote Monday. It now faces a full Senate vote. While it has been discussed in General Assembly committees, a vote has not been scheduled. Thirteen other states have similar laws.Source: Press of Atlantic City, The (NJ)Author: Derek Harper, Statehouse BureauPublished: Wednesday, December 17, 2008Copyright: 2008 South Jersey Publishing Co.Contact: letters pressofac.comURL: http://drugsense.org/url/zLLXkI9EWebsite: http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/Related Articles & Web Site:Coalition for Medical Marijuanahttp://www.cmmnj.org/Medical Marijuana Act Passes NJ Panelhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread24372.shtmlMoved by Patients, Committee Clears Marijuanahttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread24371.shtml

Paint with Light
That's a pretty picture. We bought a 10 megapixel camera for Christmas this year. We had a 1 megapixel camera before. I'm looking forward to my husband taking pictures of our place if we get a nice snowstorm.I am excited about the coming year and new administration. I don't think we will see legalization out right of marijuana but slowly it might become a non issue. Basically that is how it is treated in my state.

Thanks for the Holiday wish.I hope you and yours have a comfort filled season. No matter what happens in the coming year we have the best chance for cannabis reform we have had since the mid-70's.And this time we have the internet, and people like you and the others who post here.I believe truth will win out.I saw an image that reminded me of you and wintertime. It is on an HDR(high dynamic range site). I have been experimenting with this technique and I go to that site for inspiration and ideas.http://hdrcreme.com/photo-gallery/4137/Equal with alcohol is all I ask.

Yeah...
I have a Texas twang, no doubt.Arriana Huffington said on The Daly Show that that was one of the cool things about talking on the internet. The accent doesn't interfere with communication.

Tim
I think he would be pleased, too. And another serendipitous tie we have. We were preggers at the same time in 1966. My son will be forty two very soon.

Comfort oh how I agree. So much bad is happening in the world and each day can be a nightmare or a little pleasant. We need to find joy wherever it is hidden. Today Tim would have been 42. I know he must be pleased with what I am trying to do. I hope everyone looks for a bright spot this holiday season.

MMP President Rob Kampia sees a difference:{
"Obama has spoken out about ending DEA meddling in states where some marijuana use is legal," Marijuana Policy Project President Rob Kampia recently told the libertarian Reason magazine, before the nominations were announced.Unlike Bush and former President Bill Clinton, he said, Obama is "not a liar. He hasn't lied about his personal use, or his stance on DEA raids. He's shown intellectual honesty about issues, while other politicians squirmed away, to their detriment."

Bambu and Willie
I saw the Bambu story a few days ago. Free publicity and some, the suit, not so free.Willie isn't stingy with his music. You know, I was just thinking about something. Remember how we used to comfort each other, and ourselves, sometimes, by repeating the platitude, "It's always darkest before the dawn"... and it was very dark? Lord knows, we had to have some kind of comfort from time to time, even platitudinous comfort just to keep going. Any kind of comfort and reassurance. Some light, if only to see a few inches ahead in that dismal darkness. I think I really sense the promise of dawn.

I think change will come when it becomes almost a non issue. We won't win in a blaze or glory. It will just evolve like it has been for years now.

He's not going to tackle legalization at all ever
Obama is going to use us the way Bill Clinton used us. When he needs some support from Republicans, he's going to get it by agreeing with them to crack down on us even harder. That's how it worked in the Clinton administration and Obama is not going to give that up. That is the role we play for the Democrats. We are magic for them.Need a vote from a Republican? Throw a few potheads on the fire and make the room all warm and filled with love.We should get a medal for that.Imagine how much progressive legislation Obama will be able to get through Congress by letting Republicans ruin our lives even more.

Just a novice opinion
but I don't imagine the Obama administration would tackle legalization of cannabis in the first 100 days and maybe not in a first term, unless the general political climate opens to it as well. He will certainly be working on some of the most critical issues of economy, health care etc. I think it's very possible he could back down the DEA raids against state's rights pretty much immediately. My guess is that the boldest of cannabis policy reforms, if it remains a banner issue for crazy prohibitionist right wingers who would use the issue to attack Obama, would be more likely in a second term for the Administration. One thing that could make it happen sooner is if there is a more broad base political support for reform of cannabis laws at the congressional level. One thing Obama is not likely to do is come out of the gates with both guns blazing on cannabis reform. For the majority of Americans that's a pretty light or non-existent blip on the radar, but it's a potentially huge point of attack for his detractors, who would whip up the conservative base on such an issue. There would have to be some strong support in the legislature and if it were to come down to some executive, presidential edict, I couldn't imagine that happening until a second term is secured and probably toward the end of a second term.Keep working the grass roots and your elected representatives in Congress! I think this administration will be the best chance for policy change in decades. However, we have to be realistic about the political climate in which all of the issues will be addressed.Just because we elected "change", doesn't mean change is immediate, easy, or without effort or is even a given. Make sure your representatives are supporting your wishes, not fighting your President. Grease the wheels of democracy.

He's already sold us for something he wants from the right. He wants a lot of things from the right, so this could be the worst reefer madness administration ever.

I came across an interesting site.It correlates searches with location. It then adds a variety of other cross stats.Try pot and cannabis and watch how different the results are. They apparently don't call it reefer in North Dakota, Delaware, Wyoming or South Dakota.http://statestats.appspot.com/?q=marijuanaEqual with alcohol is all I ask.

I didn't know until about an hour ago there was a message board on Change.gov. I noticed comments on the marijuana issue. Maybe others would like to read the comments. "I have studied the issue"
Another one that actually studied it and tried to winnow out the truth for himself, and didn't ignore what he found, and was able to see the truth of the matter. That's a big improvement over the past were so many politicians seemed to delight in wrapping themselves in a big, thick robe of ignorance, fear, and hate on this matter. Most still do, of course. But anyone waking up to the truth is a big improvement. Now they can eventually see prohibition more clearly and their contempt for it will grow naturally from that understanding and knowledge. I'm thankful.
