PINEHURST, Aug. 9 (UPI) The Tulare County Sheriff's Office says it has seized nearly 7,000 marijuana plants that were being grown in two gardens in the rugged Sierra National Forest.
Sheriff's Lt. Greg Wright said today the marijuana would have had an estimated street value of more than $20 million if it had been harvested. Some of the plants were as tall as 11 feet, while others were just seedlings. Law enforcement officials were called to one of the gardens by two hunters who said they encountered several men who looked suspicious and were armed with shotguns. The second garden was spotted during an aerial search. Investigators staked out the gardens Saturday night, then seized the plants Sunday after the two suspects failed to return.
