Malaga, NM -- Agents with a regional drug task force raided Leonard French’s home in southeastern New Mexico on Tuesday and seized several marijuana plants. But the wheelchair-bound man said he’s certified by the state Health Department to possess and smoke marijuana for medical reasons. The 44-year-old lost the use of his legs about 20 years ago as the result of a motorcycle crash and now suffers from chronic pain and muscle spasms.
French allowed the agents into his home in Malaga, just north of the New Mexico-Texas border, because he said he believed he was doing nothing wrong. He had worked with his doctor and the state to get permission to have marijuana.“I’m kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place,” he told Albuquerque television station KOB-TV on Tuesday. “It makes me feel like the state says, ‘Here you go. Here’s your license to drive,’ and the first time I left the driveway, they took my car away.”While no charges have been filed against French, the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force said federal drug charges are possible.Allan Oliver, a spokesman for Gov. Bill Richardson, said authorities targeting a paraplegic man suffering from a spinal cord injury is “a policy without compassion.”“As long as Mr. French was within the limits of the medical marijuana state law, we urge the (Drug Enforcement Administration) not to prosecute him,” Oliver said late Tuesday. “U.S. attorneys have their hands full with real drug cases and border violations, and can’t afford to waste taxpayer dollars to prosecute individuals who are critically ill or suffering from debilitating conditions.”The task force stated in a news release that agents did not know French had state permission to use marijuana until after the raid.Deborah Busemeyer, a spokeswoman for the New Mexico Department of Health, confirmed that officers called the agency after the raid to verify the man’s state-issued marijuana identification card. Each card has the department’s telephone number and a special code.“This is a sad story because we want patients who need medical marijuana to have it,” she said. “A lot of these people have chronic pain and other illnesses, and this is their only relief.”A state law that took effect this summer allows the use of marijuana for pain or other symptoms of debilitating illnesses such as cancer, glaucoma, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, HIV-AIDS and certain spinal cord injuries. The department has been certifying patients as eligible to possess marijuana. That protects the individuals from state prosecution, but leaves them to find their own supply of marijuana — potentially growing it themselves or obtaining it from friends or drug dealers.Busemeyer said 38 patients have been approved to participate in the program since the law took effect July 1.She stressed the state law does not protect those in the program from federal prosecution.“Some patients are nervous about federal prosecution,” she said. “Other states (with medical marijuana laws) have experienced that federal agencies haven’t gone after patients. But again, we can’t provide protection against federal law.”New Mexico is the 12th state to legalize marijuana for certain medical uses, but it’s the only one where the law calls for state-licensed production and distribution of the drug. The department announced earlier this month that it would not implement the law’s provisions for the agency to oversee the production and distribution of marijuana to eligible patients because of concerns over the potential for federal prosecution against state employees.Richardson, who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination, has ordered the department to resume planning for a medical marijuana program, and a public hearing on the matter is planned this fall.French is apparently not the first person in the state’s medical marijuana program to catch the attention of law enforcement. Busemeyer said a similar incident occurred recently in another part of the state, but she could not provide details.Law enforcement agencies have asked the department if it could inform them about patients who are certified to have marijuana, but Busemeyer said doing so would violate federal patient privacy laws.Note: Man in wheelchair faces possible federal drug charges after raid.Complete Title: Medical Marijuana: Drug Bust Sparks Questions Over Law Source: New Mexican, The (Santa Fe, NM)Published: August 29, 2007Copyright: 2007 The Santa Fe New MexicanContact: webeditor sfnewmexican.com Website: http://www.freenewmexican.com/ Related Articles: Feds Should OK Medicinal Marijuana Usehttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread23287.shtmlNew Mexico Resumes Marijuana Programhttp://cannabisnews.com/news/thread23262.shtmlGovernor Demands Plan for Medical Marijuana http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread23261.shtml

Stephen King
is good, but he scares me! King can leave me with the shivers. Koontz does, too, but, he makes me laugh, and I'm always amazed at his mind and his way with words. Koontz usually makes you feel better, somehow, by the end of the book, too, and I like that better than being left with an extended chill.

Unless the LORD builds the house,
    its builders labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the watchmen stand guard in vain.In vain you rise early

Re-reading some of the Dean Koontz, Odd Thomas series. Recently finished Brother Odd and going back and re-reading sections of Forever Odd.I loved The Watchers. One Door Away From Heaven. Don't get me started. Dean Koontz changed the way I think.Used to, when I heard something run across the back porch, I had such a limited imagination about what it could have been.:0)

This one is somewhere in the
Old or New Testament. The Old, I think...but I'm too lazy to try to track it down. It's probably misquoted... but it's close. It came to me when I read the "Rough men" and "Violence" stuff. Maybe it's "Paraphrased"."The watchman watches in vain, unless the Lord guards the gate."

Orwell and things people "don't want to hear."
Prohibitionists sure don't want to hear what we have to say. Thank God, we've had that liberty....but I'm sure they're not listening. Fingers in their ears. Won't listen. It's a joke! But, thank God, we can say it. They won't hear it. So even though we can't go so far as to get them to hear it, we can still say it. I'm thankful for that.

Orwell notes
# Notes: allegedly said by George Orwell although there is no evidence that Orwell ever wrote or uttered either of these versions of this idea. They do bear some similarity to comments made in an essay that Orwell wrote on Rudyard Kipling, when quoting from one of his poems. * "Yes, making mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep" - Rudyard Kipling (Tommy) * "I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it." - Jack Nicholson (A Few Good Men)# Alternative: "We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm." - Winston Churchill (miscellaneous quotation, no date)

So the DEA is targeting
medical marijuana patients/providers in states that have legal medi-chronic laws. When I read the Feds did not know Mr. French had a state card, I have my doubts on that.Waiting for Gov. Richardson's next move, this is backlash from the letter he is sending/sent Bush.

The closet situation
I sincerely believe that some people, should, in fact, stay in the closet, so to speak.Alison, They have no mercy.Mr. French's case, described in this article, is but one example of what they "Can do". They are "Showing you", "Making it very clear to you", what they can do. "Don't even get to thinking you're too free." "Don't even imagine there's mercy."Certainly, don't imagine there's thinking and conscience. " They absolutely love "Sending messages".Mr. French is being made an example of. He's a warning. Some people would risk not only prison, but losing everything...including their lives, homes, and/or families. Do you have enough equity in your home to finance the legal help you might need? Would you even be allowed to keep your equity, if you had any.If you have children...they need you more than the "Cause" does. If you're a child, pray not, you should be doing something else.Museman has suffered having his home taken. It meant so much to his family and so little to those that took/confiscated/seized it. Taking is important to the drug warriors. It's "A message", too. It's serious. Very serious. Some places are worse than others.

Three San Mateo Pot Distribution Centers Raided
August 29, 2007 San Mateo -- Federal agents and local police on Wednesday raided three locations in San Mateo that authorities described as "marijuana distribution centers."Agents seized 50 pounds of processed marijuana, hash, marijuana-laced food and about $30,000 in cash, according to a Drug Enforcement Administration statement. The DEA referred to the operations as "drug trafficking organizations," but it was unclear whether they had ties to medical marijuana clubs. Feds Shut Down 3 San Mateo Marijuana Centers

Agents Seize Marijuana, Money In San Mateo Stings August 29, 2007SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent in Charge Javier F. Peña and San Mateo Police Chief Susan Manheimer announced Wednesday the execution of several federal search warrants on three marijuana distribution centers in San Mateo.Documents relating to the investigations remain under court seal. All search warrants were served without incident.“DEA will continue to work with our counterparts in law enforcement to take the illicit profits, proceeds and marijuana generated by these drug trafficking organizations” said Peña.
The San Mateo warrants were the result of a nine-month long investigation conducted by the DEA San Francisco Office and the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force. As a result of the search, agents seized 50 pounds of processed marijuana, hash, marijuana laced edibles, and approximately $30,000.“The actions taken today in San Mateo are a part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by DEA," San Mateo Police Chief Manheimer said. "It is apparent that illegal operations within San Mateo will be shut down and the property owners held accountable and liable.”Following Wednesday's operation property owners where the San Mateo marijuana distribution centers conducted business were notified about the illegal activity occurring on their premises. The notice told owners that further violations might result in criminal prosecution, a DEA spokesman said.Wednesday's operation was conducted by the DEA with assistance from San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force and the San Mateo Police Department. Alcohol and drug abuse are fueling the violence against EMTs. Zach Schiess, 29, who has worked as an EMT for six years, said he was called to a bar in South Boston after a man's arm was twisted in a fight. When he arrived, he said, the man and his girlfriend started swinging at him and his partner, forcing them to lock themselves in their ambulance.

Every time this stuff appears in the media like this, and there's no statement from the AG, and the governor is weakly apologetic and does nothing about it, that's how they oppress us. This isn't China or Saudi Arabia where the govt. just bans newspapers and TV stations they don't like. No, THIS is how our system of "soft tyranny" and brainwashing works. We use all media outlets and leaders to constantly set behavioral norms in people's minds. Expectations about the role of government in a free country. Constantly, incrementally lowering expectations of what a free life means.Over a lifetime, it works remarkably well. People develop a subconscious expectation that cops bust MJ users. That's what they do. It's how the world works. Soon, it's expected that all MJ users eventually get busted. SHOULD be busted.Look how powerful it is. Even after laws are changed in CA and NM, the government doesn't obey and people aren't even fazed. What would happen if an American in a wheelchair was attacked by insurgents in Iraq? It would be all over the front page for 2 weeks.Instead, articles like this appear, this one about the aggressiveness caused by alchohol use, and *bingo*, doublethink kicks in. Even though alcohol causes people to beat up EMTs that are trying to help them, somehow it seems totally normal that alcohol users are coddled while MJ users in wheelchairs are attacked by SWAT teams in their homes:http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2007/08/29/fielding_more_calls_city_emts_often_attacked_injured/

interesting case
Hmmm - they've already busted 2 people in the state program? It's only been around for a few months. This guy only had "several" plants. There's only 2 ways for this to happen. 1) someone ratted him out 2) someone is leaking the state registry info to the pigs.Methinks are some rat-boy Republican/LEO people in the DPH that are ratting patients out. Shame on any human being that busts a man in an wheelchair for a few plants! What despicable people. In a just world, these pigs would be sent to SuperMax for daily cavity searches. Maybe someday.......

I really like Dennis Kucinich. I would be happy if he won but I don't have as much faith as you do that he can.

This is why Dennis Kucinich will be President!
And YOU, C-Newsers, will be responsible for his election! Thanks in advance!
(His birth chart progressed is awesome for winning the election, though to have it stolen from him would be likely, and then the election farce back-fires, he gets into office finally, and the Re-sucklingcans can permanently stay in the airport bathrooms hitting on undercover cops! Yeah, that's it! Family Values!(Come out of the closet and you can hang out in gay bars, where you should be!)Yes, watch this video of Dennis, and tell me Hillary, or Obama has the cajones to take on the Bog Pharmo and the Prison/industrial complex!(notice how MSNBC edits out the 'reactions and responses of the crowd when they approve....media manipulation and YOU are the ones being manipulated to THINK only Hillary can win). And tell me Dennis doesn't have a chance! The more you hear that one, the more LIKELY he will win!As time goes by,,the lameness of ALL but Dennis will be shoved down our throats, as NONE of the Democratic candidates are willing to take on Big Pharma, except perhaps Bill Richardson, as he and Dennis have taken the lead in implementing a 'conscious' approach to cannabis and health care. (Where's Obama, all he has to do is take Dennis' approach, and his election would be a done deal, but he seems compromised though I'm rooting for his wife to bring him on baord, she has cajones, why is it MEN don't have Balls anymore? Spines, backbones, integrity?Yet Dennis does, what's up with that?Back to the article:
Let's see what Bill Richardson does to intervene in this situation, I expect him to do the right thing, and believe he will!Let me make this clear, the World as we have known it is over, done, finis! Bush killed it!And that's fine, it was sucking anyway!Time to Re-birth the Uni-verse in the Suns' image!
(Jesus is a name for the SUN of God, Gods SON! He didn't exist as a man, but as a 'eon'.The BIRTH of a NEW GOLDEN AGE IS UPON US,(regardless of whether you 'believe' me or not, just check in with your heart, and ask it, 'can you continue to live in a world of pain, torture, loss, suffering and to live under the insanity of a rogue, criminal, mafioso bush/cheney regime?Or are you, as the GOD you are, going to manifest your 'hearts' desire'?Yes you are, at least I am, and you will too, when you see others manifesting in the 'now' the 'all that is, and ever was'.Note to C-newsers:
Forget Ron Paul, you know, he doesn't quite get it, though he is admirable, like Mike Gravel on some issues, don't waste your time, or MINE!Only the REAL DEAL will do it now, and most posters here now this, thank you very much!So CHOOSE to do as George W.and Karl R. do, and CREATE your own reality! Otherwise, we live in their reality, a reality of horror, darkness, lies, lies and more lies!Watch www.zeitgeistmovie.com and send far and wide, it's free, and everyone here can get a basic grasp on Astrology, and how the Bible is just an Astro-theological parable! And Part 11 and Part 111 you will have no problem with! Not what you're expecting I'm sure!Take it from these 'loons', it works! So I choose 'light' and 'love' over 'darkness' and 'hate'!And that choice will BE!As I make it so!And so do you, if you choose the light! And believe in yourself, have NO FEAR, and embrace all experience as a choice on your path to realizing you are already enlightened!http://35percenters.com/2007/08/28/dennis-kucinich-speaks-

med's
Marijuana is not a drug. Drugs are a type of poison, poisons can kill you. Marijuana cannot kill you. Your body rejects drugs. Marijuana is saved in your fat cells, poisons are not saved in your fat cells. Your body knows what is good and what is bad. Listen to your body. Toke on!
