Colorado -- Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and four City Council members have admitted using pot in the past, a newspaper reported today. Others, such as council members Carol Boigon and Chris Nevitt, were more coy. "I'm going to go on record saying I've never smoked pot. I've also never parked illegally and never sped," Nevitt jokingly told the Denver Daily News.
"I'm 60 years old. I went to school at the University of Michigan. Do a little research," Boigon said, according to the newspaper. The report comes in advance of a vote tonight on whether or not to refer to voters an initiative that would make adult possession of less than an ounce of marijuana the "lowest priority" for police. Hickenlooper told the paper he made "personal choices" when he was younger that he neither supports nor condones now. Council members Rick Garcia, Marcia Johnson, Carla Madison and Jeanne Robb also told the paper they've "smoked or ingested" pot. "I had a brownie once. There may have even been a bowl going with it ..." Johnson said, according to the report. "I got a good taste and even a case of the giggles." Council President Michael Hancock and council members Jeanne Faatz and Paul Lopez said they've never smoked weed. Charlie Brown, Peggy Lehmann, Doug Linkhart and Judy Montero declined to say whether or not they've ever used pot. Source: Rocky Mountain News (Denver, CO)Author: Daniel J. Step Ahead re:#12
That question was asked with about 5 people around to hear it. Within a few days some friends and I spread the word as far as we could. But not far enough. She did not win by a landslide by any means. She hob-nobs and rubs shoulders with the ‘pillars of the community’ and then gets support from the local slander sheets. The newspapers do a number on six-pack Joe, and that’s how she has been winning. The last election we had a field of 6 candidates running for 3 open positions on the city counsel. Her position was not up for grabs. Her term is almost up, I suspect she will try to hold it on the next go around.2 positions got filled with the candidates of choice. But one got away to a rich preacher man’s wife. There was a young girl in her early to mid 20s’ very mature for her age, and well educated. We wanted to give her more support than we did. It was imperative to fill these seats with the right people, so we picked three, she was not one of these, and went for it, and got 2 out of three. I hope that youngin will run again, she will get more support. By the way, she got 15% of the votes, and it was her first time out against a pretty powerful group of candidates. She ran her campaign by herself with a little help from her friends. Also there were referendums on the ballot. One for the city counsel to get a pay raise, and another to do away with our 3 consecutive term limits so that some may sit on the throne indefinitely. Both were voted down by about 70%.The process works to some degree, but the people need to hold elected officials accountable for it to work the way it should. That is our job to do, and we need more of it.

We don't pay them to think for us. We pay them to PRESENT what WE think. RE-PRESENT. Think for us...That is offensive. How could that person still be in office? Maybe she won't be now that some of her constituents know what SHE thinks. Spread the word about her, bro. She doesn't deserve that office. Toke.

“The Denver City Council said it will let voters decide how much of a priority enforcing the city's marijuana law will be.”Sounds like Pontius Pilate washing his hands.

Representation
Re: #9We had a candidate running for re election on the local city counsel. She was asked point blank if the voters wanted something and she if was personally against it, would she represent the voters, or how she personally felt about an issue. Her response was,” “The people elected me to think for them.” “I will vote how I feel.”These elected officials forget their job description about 30 seconds after the election.Yes Sir!!! It turns into what should we LET our citizens do and don’t, instead of responding to the people who elects them to office and pays their salary. This candidate is a perfect example. She still holds office…And she didn’t get any votes from here…

That's very interesting how the headline says:"The Denver City Council said it will let voters decide how much of a priority enforcing the city's marijuana law will be."Interesting that the city council will LET the voters decide. I didn't know that city councils had the power over voters to either let or not let them decide on something (through voting).

boycot Mayor John Hickenlooper's beer products.
I wonder how many of them were unhappy with the buzz of cannabis because it was too mild?... And now they stick with booze 'cause it's stronger.-0-And Hypocrisy?Hypocrisy is owning a brewery and helping to perpetuate cannabis prohbition?Brewer/Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper doesn't want You to enjoy the mild buzz of cannabis / a God-given plant / fresh food...But wants You to have access to His rotten food; BEER, brewhaha. But You can't have a joint.Cannabis legalization would threaten His profits. And He knows it. That seems to be a conflict of interest.-0-I recommend that Denver (and beyond...) beer consumers that oppose cannabis prohibition boycot Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper's beer products.

Either there was a bowl going
or not, but please elaborate if you were also under the
influence of God forbid alcohol imparing your judgment
or memory."There may have even been a bowl going with it ..." Johnson said, according to the report. "I got a good taste and even a case of the giggles."

"I'm 60 years old. I went to school at the University of Michigan. Do a little research," Boigon said, according to the newspaperWhy don't YOU do a little research? Change the laws! Order the police to stand down, as your constituents have voted! That is in your job description. Get to work. Don't tell us to research, we don't care about your stupid college days.
