  Pills Can Kill, Pot Cannot!

USA -- College, a time for everyone to explore their youth and freedom. When I say explore, I mean this in a plethora of ways. Explore with people, explore with the area, and finally, explore with partying, a.k.a pills and pot! After reading today's headline about pills starting to take over for pot, I was very intrigued. Being recently out of college with it still fresh on my memory, I figured I could share my experience to root out some fact and fiction.
I went to URI, also know as UR "High" to those that indulge in the party life at URI. For a school that went from the top 5 national party list to a dry campus within a couple years, a lot has changed. To someone like me, these changes are boring and unfortunate. To parents and professors, this is excellent news. Fact: pot, pills, and all other drugs are found at pretty much every college in the nation, hands down. Sure, some have more than others, some have more of one than the other but fact is they are out there and they will continue to be. I have a severe case of ADHD. I am the guy who cannot sit still, is always on the move, and who gets bored within seconds during most activities. This led me to a prescription of Adderall. I started taking "Addies" as I call them in 9th grade. My world basically opened up. WOW. I could focus, concentrate, and study. Grades rose instantly. Grades were not the only thing changing though ... I was. Adderall is a strong drug that people do not realize the full potential of ... especially college students. Adderall was nothing special to me until I went to college. I took it a few times a week in high school to help me concentrate and study. I repeated this same process in college, gradually winding off them due to side effects. Adderall did one thing to me ... made me go NUTS. It is a serious stimulant that causes your brain to race. For me, it actually calmed me down at times, easing my ADHD. Other times, it would absolutely ruin my day because I could not stop thinking about certain things and it gave me terrible mood swings that not only I noticed. It also suppressed my appetite. I could not even think about eating while on the medication causing me to lose weight ... something I will do anything not to do as I have an obsession with gaining weight (always been hard for me). For reasons like this I stopped taking it as frequently. This leads me to college. I was exposed to quite a lot in my four year experience. The one thing I learned was that if you had Adderall, you were quite popular with both guys and girls. Come time for finals, your phone did not stop ringing. "Dude, can I have an Adderall?!" "I have a test tomorrow; I really need some help ... ?" It was honestly quite pathetic to me. People were convinced that they needed Adderall to help or they would fail. And I would constantly tell people, just watch out because Adderall is really strong, especially when snorted which is what most do that don't have a prescription. Snorting Adderall ... no thank you! I can actually remember a time when I was talking to a girl and her nose started dripping a blue substance from a pill she recently snorted. Talk about a turn off!! So now I get to the other stuff. Pot is everywhere. I mean everywhere even when you think it is not. My college was no exception. To be honest, it would have been harder to find someone who did not smoke than who did, a stunning fact. This is what makes me question today's headline of "Move over, Marijuana Young Americans increasingly choose pills over pot." What I also found was Adderall made it so that people wanted to smoke Pot. Pot helped ease their mind while it was racing from the pill. Is this a good or bad thing here people? I am sure you can answer that for me. When it came to the harder stuff, Valium, Xanax etc., those were a little out of my league, but no stranger. Same thing, they are everywhere and if you had a prescription, you were quite popular. Having a friend who overdosed on his 21st birthday from snorting Methadone pills, I saw the worst case scenario of someone who thought they were just having fun. Well, he will never have fun again nor will any of his friends and family be able to see him again. The only way for this congress to proceed is by investigation, impeachment, conviction, removal and disqualification of the administration. That's my opinion.

There is no point criticizing Congress for not passing legislation. They have passed legislation which George Bush vetoes. When he does not veto, he appends a magical "Signing Statement" that overrides the purpose of the legislation and he does NOT TAKE CARE that the laws be faithfully executed.

And Frank Zappa
was also brought before the Congressional hearing.....from wik....."Twisted Sister is an American heavy metal band from New York City. Their work fuses the shock tactics of Alice Cooper, the rebellious mood of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, the style of the New York Dolls, and the extravagant makeup of KISS. The group has a glam-like image and implements musically elements of classic heavy metal bands such as Judas Priest and Iron Maiden as did some of the earlier glam metal bands. Although the band was formed by guitarist Jay Jay French in 1973, all of their songs were written by lead singer Dee Snider. He describes Twisted Sister as "Slade meets The Sex Pistols". The group's hits include "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock", both popularized by regular airplay on MTV in the 1980s. Many of the band's songs explore themes of parent vs. child conflicts and criticisms of the educational system."

You can see how closely I follow politics because I don't remember that about Twisted Sister. Actually I don't think I ever heard a song by Twisted Sister. I think a couple of performances were really good at Live Earth. Roger Waters, John Mayer and Melissa Etheridge really stood out to me.

I am glad Al Gore invented the Internet. LOL! I bet Bill Clinton is jealous of Al Gore's devoted followers. The 60s generation gave birth to what we have seen and enjoyed today watching Live Earth. We did good because look at this event today! Also the lunatics on the grass was great. I saw pills floating around the screen.I have a high speed connection but they restrict our bandwidth use. Videos just eat it up and then they shut you down for 24 hours as a punishment and I must avoid that since then I can't even look for or post news the connection is so bad. When Cat Stevens video gets on Youtube I will watch it.

I know whig. I miss Maxwell House commercials. Good to the last drop kind of commercials. Come to think of it that's a mind altering substance too but it's natural and there is the difference.

Prescription drugs are advertised openly on TV, and even sold as something to improve your sex life. Seriously.

Thank you. Why doesn't John Walter's make tv ads for prescription drugs instead of marijuana since that seems to be what is popular for young people?PS: I bet your puppy is really growing up.

"Stolen" truck
You have to understand how this works. The truck drivers and/or guys at the Big Pharma loading dock probably make $12 an hour. They call their friend "guess what, I'll have a loaded truck full of Vicodin at the Elm street Shell station at 10:30, and I'm going to have to spend at least 10 minutes in the bathroom. And I often forget to the lock the doors to the truck. And there's a spare key under the passenger seat. By the way, can I have $10,000 in cash?"When the "crime" is victimless, the law won't work. Too simple for most people to understand.

I do not understand how pills have become so popular and natural remedies are pushed aside. How in the world did people survive before pills for every ill? The concert is really good! I am not a Madonna fan but her song and video brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Madonna!

We don't need no stinking pills
"The liberally educated person is one who is able to resist the easy and preferred answers, not because he is obstinate but because he knows others worthy of consideration." - Allan BloomOne answer worthy of consideration is to end the prohibition on cannabis. It might not be the easy answer. It might not be the preferred answer. One thing is for certain: Distributing pills like Vioxx and killing 64,000 people is not the answer.

Thank you for the link. My problem with the lineup for Live Earth is I don't know who most of the musicians are. I wish they would have been able to get Neil Young or Bob Dylan or someone that is really famous.

Have a great vacation. I am sorry to read about Amsterdam getting americanized. We really must want to rule the world. I thought that was what we were afraid that Russia was trying to do years ago. The more I see, and the older I get the more I am thankful that I live in the country far away from it all.

Happy 7/7/7 from Amsterdam
It's 8:20 A.M. here right now, but it's also 4:20 every minute of the day here. LOLThere's a sadness as gloomy as the clouds and rain in some of the Dutch as they witness the Americanization of their once-free country.Instead of America embracing a successful model in reducing junkies, crime and the indescribable cruelty towards millions of cannabis partakers, the so-called "christians" currently in charge of the Dutch government seem hell-bent on embracing the colossal failure of the american "war on drugs."None of the people I've talked to think it will actually ever happen here, but the Dutch police are becoming as megalomaniacal as our own and are creating a lot of undue stress.Gotta go. Fun and sun are waiting for me.The Reverend Bud Green

Just Say You Know
the truth between fact and fiction regarding the danger of cannabis use compared to modern pharmocology. That's my main problem with public High School in America, they won't teach the truth about marijuana prohibition. I've educated people from my 16.5 year-old son's teachers to his Probation officer, I have facts to back up any statement I give them, and it literally freaks them out that they are so nieve to the facts, I don't support the war on drugs and that p*$$#$$ them off.
