Connecticut -- Gov. M. Jodi Rell today vetoed legislation that would have allowed the medical use of marijuana, saying in a veto message she was unconvinced that the measure was medically necessary.Rell's three-page message said that the "medical profession, as well as public and private biotechnology researchers, have made great strides in both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic modalities for pain management and they continue their search to find effective pain relieving drugs."
The bill passed by wide margins in both chambers after contentious, often emotional debates. The Senate passed the measure, 23-13, and House approved it, 89-58. Overriding a veto requires 24 votes in the Senate and 101 in the House."There should be no doubt that all of us would want to relieve the pain of a suffering patient," Rell said in a statement. "But few physicians have prescribed marijuana because doing so would be a violation of federal law. I am also concerned that this bill would send the wrong message to our youth."The bill would have allowed residents older than 18 with specific debilitating medical conditions diagnosed by a physician to cultivate and use marijuana to relieve symptoms. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Thank you for the LWW Link. I have it in my favorites and check it every couple days wondering if Neil is considering a new album. He has been quiet this year. Maybe he will do something in 08 with Crazy Horse. If he can't physically take that amount of work anymore I understand. I don't know how CSN and Y did the Freedom of Speech Tour last summer. I checked out the Michael Moore link. That is very interesting to read.
