  Sanctuary City?

San Francisco -- Four years after she was first arrested, Stephanie Landa turned herself in to authorities last week to begin serving her three-year sentence for maintaining a warehouse for growing medical marijuana. A raid by law enforcement swept up Landa and friends Kevin Gage and Tom Kikuchi in 2002.Five months prior to the raid, Landa, Gage, and Kikuchi met with local police officers to discuss how to cultivate the plants while complying with the law.
She told us at the time that San Francisco police assured her they wouldn't cooperate with federal law enforcement officials. After receiving assurances that they would not face trouble, the growers set up their warehouse only a couple blocks from the Hall of Justice."The story that Stephanie tells is very chilling," Sup. Chris Daly said at a press conference for Landa on the day she turned herself in. "We are under the impression that we're a sanctuary city." Daly said police should either refuse to cooperate with federal drug raids or actively protect local growers. While voters legalized growing and possessing medical marijuana in 1996, the feds say they can still prosecute growers and suppliers under federal drug laws. Despite San Francisco's self-proclamation as a "sanctuary" for medicinal marijuana, the SFPD worked with the feds to bust Landa."I think this is immoral and unconstitutional collusion," says Allison Margolin, Landa's attorney. "The state has had a chance to shut down the medical marijuana law, but they didn't do that. It's a really sick thing, and I don't think we want our government to act this way."Landa's sentence was deferred so she could take care of her son until Kikuchi, the father, returned from prison. Margolin is currently appealing Landa's sentence. re: comment's 136 and 138
I think we have more ways that we agree than disagree. When I use the name jesus, it is in a metaphorical sense, without the writings of some long forgotten people, jesus would be another nameless and faceless piece of flesh hammered into submission for voicing a contrary view to the powers that cleverly and mercilessly hold on to that power. If it would make you happy I will not use the word jesus, but how can I communicate the fact that in contemporary society we are acting out the same set of events with the same conclusion?I have been criticized for my use of the pause or space that mm mentioned, perhaps it is my need to think out each word, each thought on this journey.Thinking of Martin Luther King Jr.

more on Ron Paul
http://tinyurl.com/y3rnp5Why to vote for Ron Paul and support him as this country's best hope of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness:
 1. He is not swayed, as are the Corporate Democrats and Republicans by special interest groups like military contractors and the big oil companies - He is truly a man of the people and he loves the constitution of the United States. Ron Paul is not an elitist corporate puppet, he represents everything that made this country great.
 2. He is against US involvement is unnecessary Wars.
 3. He will protect all of our constitutional rights including the most sacred right of all - the right of self-defense - He has the only perfect score from the Gun Owners of America organization for his voting record in congress.
 4. He will make sure this country does not continue down its path of becoming a total police state but unlike George Bush, he will rigorously defend our borders.
 5. He wants to abolish the IRS and return to the era of prosperity and fairness by returning this country to the gold and silver standard instead of having a handful of private stockholders of the private Federal Reserve Bank printing money at will and manipulating our economy. This will be the return of Sound Banking Practices instead of fractional fiat banking which our Founding Fathers continuously warned us about.
 6. He is a Vietnam veteran - he is a doctor who served as flight surgeon in the Vietnam war - not like some of these phony veterans that you see prancing around Washington D.C. on the news all the time.
 7. According to the Associated Press , "Paul bills himself as "The Taxpayers' Best Friend," and is routinely ranked either first or second in the House by the National Taxpayers Union, a national group advocating low taxes and limited government."
 8. "Here is another area where Ron Paul shines because he is a pro-American patriot. He loves this country and what it has stood for freedom, private property, rule of law, no intervention in other countries' affairs and he wants it to stand for that again. He has been speaking out on the floor of Congress against the war and against the myriad restrictions on freedom that have been foisted on us by a political class in Washington that is largely hostile to the freedom of Americans."
 http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig2/henderson2.html
 9. John Berthoud, president of the National Taxpayers Union, an organization that promotes lower tax rates, has said, "Ron Paul has always proven himself to be a leader in the fight for taxpayer rights and fiscal responsibility... No one can match his record on behalf of taxpayers." He is frequently considered an advocate of small business. Jack Harris, president of the National Federation of Independent Business, has said, "Congressman Ron Paul is a true friend of small business....
 10. Ron Paul will make sure American farmers can stay in business and compete with China.
 11. Ron Paul will make sure you can buy vitamins without a prescription and he will make sure the government doesn't outlaw them - Ron Paul will fight for your freedom of choice.
 12. On January 11, 2007, Paul filed papers for an exploratory committee for the 2008 presidential race. This will increase his fund raising opportunities until his presumed eventual announcement. This first step of running for the Republican nomination is significant because he is not running as a Libertarian like he did nearly two decades ago. - Please realize that all of those pathetic hand-picked corporate sell-outs that the corporate media is going to give you as your only choices are NO GOOD - the media's corporate backers want you to believe that those phonies represent "the list of candidates" from which you are supposed to choose - please don't let them fool you this time - the fate of your country depends on it, the future of your family depends on it - Ron Paul is the only real candidate that will keep this country from getting into World War 3 (as UN weapons inspector for the Middle East Scott Ritter has predicted if we continue this war and attack Iran which is supported by Russia, China, and North Korea, all of whom have nuclear war heads)

I understand what you are saying. I am a Christian but I don't use the word Jesus when talking about faith. It is a name and one that angers because of what organized religion has done to our country. I was a member of the Assembly of God church which is Ashcroft's denomination. I know how they teach and I know the err of their ways. I also know the good they do. What if we have a Muslim on CNews. How would he or she feel if we kept associating Jesus as God and not Allah? It makes wars we know.

g_w -FoM
G_W, I think - it is my opinion - that you just stretch out your comments with such space, that it is hard to follow your thoughts.Though I personally think that I agree with most of what you say, my "YSHWH" is your "Jesus". The fact that to so many errant and corrupted folks "Jesus" is the name by which they covered the world in their filth, raises objections in my own mind to the usage of the word. Referring to scripture, or spiritual wisdom is I think important to get to the real truth of every issue, but I've been around enough to know that many people aren't willing to discuss too many things in a spiritual light - for the same reasons I don't like the word 'jesus'. It's not something I want to argue about, but to me that 'name' rings false, and represents everything that is false about the religion.When 'he' is quoted, or referred to, as supporting thought to an idea or conclusion, I get past the name, and consider the content. When it's just about 'him' -that's preaching.in an earlier post I said this;
"What really gets me, is; If the population can submit themselves to the obedience of such false authority as manifested in our government and corporate powers, why can't they submit to the much more benign authority of God?"I think it is the same question as in your post #133I understand that the relationship with God is not a long list of compromises -like the church and state, but trying to put 'New Wine' in proverbial "old skins" just leads to confusion and anger - that's not our part, anymore that it is our part to attempt to pull out the splinters in each others eyes- and those logs grow back almost instantaneously.Patience is hard when you have seen truth, but without it the truth can easily be skewed, and lost in the shuffle.I am still learning this myself.FoM - Am I close?peace

Ron Paul's office has confirmed reports that the Texas Congressman is set to run for the 2008 Presidency. http://tinyurl.com/y7f2qyIf a gargantuan effort is made from now until the end of 2008 to heighten Paul's media profile and forward him as America's last hope, he truly has a significant chance of giving Jeb Bush, Rudy Giuliani or whichever elitist puppet the Republicans choose to put forward a real run for their money.

I am sorry to hear that FoM. I pray then that you find healing.Your magnanimosity is showing. You have my utmost respect.I find it easy to find converse with you, here. It is at least one of your talents that you spread around, and just about everybody here gets the benefit of.I understand what it takes to manifest energy, particularly when something beyond your control is taking it away. It takes a lot of energy to do what you do. Energy and entropy are two at-odds systems which vital youth often gloss over in their zeal to 'forge ahead.'I suggest that those of us here who have some faith and belief in the possiblity of the 'miraculous' or 'magical' spend some inner time asking for healing on your behalf.Maybe if a bit more of that were done, our true foundation might become clearer.

Have you ever asked yourself why it is that those of us who attempt to "Do unto others as we would have done to ourselves" or "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesars, and render unto God (The Most High, YHWH) that which is Gods'," are often trodden underfoot by those who choose not?I think it's rhetorical."Tolerance" is in my understanding a foundational principle of "forgiveness." Of course there are conditional lines that should never be crossed, and if those lines - like 'personal sovereignty' and 'the right to be secure in our persons and our homes' -are upheld we have balance. But when those lines are blurred, erased, or obscured by force, coercion, and cultural edict, we have imbalance.Which is where such parables as; "Be in the world but not of it." or "You must as wise as serpents, but as harmless as doves." come into play."No man can serve two masters." and all that it implies, is to me a major principle that most of humanity is currently in denial of. I struggle too, but I know which master I wish to serve, even as I would also love to spit in Caesars eye.

Glad you liked it. I believe we shouldn't judge others so when I think about how I feel about a morally tangled issue and law I step outside myself and think what is good for others but maybe just not me. An example is abortion. I cherish life (pro life) and that means I don't believe personally with abortion but the big but is I am not suppose to judge others so that decision should be between a woman and her doctor (pro choice).

OT: - my spelling
As many of you may have noticed, I quite frequently post with errors in my spelling. I try to review and correct them, but the fault is in my eyesight. I have no glasses that will allow me to see the monitor screen clearly, I have stigmatism that has kind of made me far-sighted, so I have to use my computer without my glasses. So I often miss things even after reviewing them several times and making corrections. I should motivate myself to get some glasses, but I haven't. I'm just saying this to let you know that my typos are many...my fingers too big for the keys (splayed from guitar playing for almost 40 years). And I never really learned to type correctly.Just so you know that I am not just lazy about it or something, and I apologize for the past and future spelling.

I didn't think that you were. I think of things like how Bush should talk to Iran but that has nothing to do with any belief I might have. One is my belief system and the other is trying to be a political person in my mind for a brief minute. I separate a political look at things from my personal belief system. The Render to Ceasar scripture. The Christian Coalition has merged their beliefs with politics and the result have been terrible.

I did not mean to 'correct' just point out. I know you understand. The difference between the meanings of similar phrases causes much confusion in the un-informed mind. For example; That phrase 'keep your enemies closer' is very warlike, and supports such concepts as 'might makes right', and militarism, and easily done by men with ego-centric values. Whereas "love your enemies" is light years away from the former cliche, and is actually quite a challenge which few accept. I have a hard time with it myself.YSHWH also said in an obscure document rejected by most of contemporary xtianity; "Know thy enemy." Modern staus quo interpretation seems to be "Be thy enemy", or in other clichetical (I invent a word) terms; "If you can't beat 'em join 'em." - the current Democrat motto.

Thank you for your understanding....My 'scars' only appear because I understand the whys and wherefores of their existence. My scars are mostly the pain and suffering of my fellow humanity who has been forced into bondage to a system which is as evil as any ever were. My pain is more empathic than 'actual' but that doesn't make my heart any less sore.Sure, I do have my own experiences , maybe more than the average norm, and those serve to back up my understandings.Obviously the current events demonstrate, or at least they are beginning to demonstrate where the real power in this country, and the world actually lies. And unfortunately it is not with the people. The illusion that it ever was is just the reason why so many Americans have allowed it to come to pass without any serious objection. The status quo is very careful to consider it's odds before launching various steps in it's plan for world domination. While the people were "speaking", plans for a controlled Armageddon were moving forward with no resistance, because the real power felt no need to inform the plebians of it's intentions. While some were rejoicing because we voted more of the blue fascists into office, instead of the red, plans to increase the armed forces were laid down, and implemented.Obama, Hillary, Pelosi, even Kucinich -whom I personally like, are all part of the same ilk. Their "true color" is one. Black as empty space, dark as the night that never saw a day, and as evil in their hypocrisy and complicity as any human can be.They thrive on appearance, because Amercians have been bred to believe that that appearance is the number one priority of American success. Therefore to 'look good' is to 'be good.'They are no different from the scribes and pharisees who condemned YSHWH because he busted their trip.YSHWH said; "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess."These are our leaders, and every one of them has been initiated into somewhat secret orders and fraternities to which they all swear allegiance. Those oaths and allegiances are not with the people, but to themselves, and their greater agendas -that go back thousands of years.I did not make this information up, I merely report it in the hope that somehow the truth will set us free. Though I may 'appear' to constantly riding a 'dark horse', and negative, pessimistic, it's only because the enemy IS AT THE GATES, and to pretend otherwise is pure foolishness in my estimation.I so much want to begin the solutions, but I don't believe in confrontation or competition. Oh I can rise to the occasion, but it would not be my first choice. No solutions exist within the current framework, only temporary patches that eventually just contribute to the over-all corruption. What really gets me, is; If the population can submit themselves to the obedience of such false authority as manifested in our government and corporate powers, why can't they submit to the much more benign authority of God?

"Aren't we to keep our friends close and our enemies even closer or something like that? "I believe that is a Roman Axiom. A bastardization of YSHWH's "Love your enemies."But YSHWH didn't say we have to agree, or go along with them.

Here a cop there a cop...
The escalation has begun. Today in my little berg, I saw State Police hassling a poor person for not having a headlight on his scooter - he was trying ot get to work.Over by the health food restaurant , a man was handcuffed and surrounded by the Sheriffs Posse (looking like SWAT). Over by the substation, which rarely sees much cop presence (people have voted against giving the cops money for years.) there were many cop cars. All in a 10 minute trip to the store. To many this may seem ordinary, however, though this kind of thing always happens around harvest time, there is no precedent for this.I beleive that the 'Commander in Chief' has issued orders all the way down to the streets my friends.1984 wasn't just a concept, and fascism is not just a fringe ideology, it is now mainstream. FBI files, lol. They only come after you if you appear to be winning in their game. But watch they will.I've been waiting for that boot on the door -oh that's right it already happened -twice. I'm all for free speech; not inactively afraid
Certainly wasn't speaking against free speech, and the obvious solution is for everyone to speak out and support it (fear can stifle and change the discourse). Societal aims and their often incompatibility with certain "out" groups have a way of stifling free speech, time and again. Freedom of speech has come and gone before or been applied subjectively/arbitrarily in different societies/countries.The Internet is a global technology, and the free speech ramifications and the ability to keep records of all communication can come to head. Pretty sure self-censorship occurs in America to some degree on certain topics and I imagine in China self-censorship as well as overt governmental censorship is much worse (as well as the ramifications). My point was, the Internet is a technology we are only beginning to grapple with, good and bad, socially and personally. As for thought crimes and freedom of speech. There are obscenity laws, FCC on-air restrictions, free speech zones, and the Internet could well be the next frontier for censorship/surveillance/information gathering (overt or clandestine), so I would have to say regulation of thoughts and speech is not a new territory. Just as speech is the verbalization of thought, behavior is often the action of thought and governments/people have no trouble regulating behavior. If regulating speech is mind control, is regulating behavior mind control as well? In other words, if you can't act upon a thought because of government, could that be considered a form of mind control (albeit indirectly)? If so, do most of us support some forms of indirect mind control?

I thought about exactly that, a few years back. It almost scared me. I have laid awake at night after some of these protests, listening for the crashing of my door, and the killing of my dogs, and the death of my Liberty. I suppose that is just the price I am willing to pay so they know EVERYONE isn't inactively afraid. That somewhere, someone is Waiting. Someone is Willing. To TAKE OUR FREEDOM BACK! Yep, lacuncon, we are recording the present. If Freedom of Speech is EVER ended and prosecuted in this country, we are ALL guilty. But what about Freedom of Thought? They would have to make THAT a crime before Freedom of Speech. Wouldn't they? Isn't speech just the verbalization of thought? How horrible! The SEA. Speech Enforcement Agency. The TEA. In Defense of a Liberal Tradition for America...
America is (hypothetically at least) a Liberal Democratic-Republic, owing this heritage to the ideas of the Enlightenment as well as those put forth by John Locke, such as natural law. For those who insist on a conservative legacy for America, they should be reminded that we broke from the British crown during the American Revolution, severing the idea that the King was ordained by God. Instead, as is explained in the Declaration of Independance and set out in the Constitution, the framers of the Constitition based governmental legitimacy upon the selection of office-holders by the people through periodic elections. No man would be made to legitimitely rule over another through God's will, but instead through the people's will, a very liberal idea. But times change and so do commonly accepted meanings of terms, ya hear!

Illusion of Internet Anonymity...
With internet protocol addresses recorded with each move that we make online, one might as well stand on his roof-top with a bullhorn and proclaim what he thinks. It is as if we were little red riding hood, strolling through the forest, dropping bread-crumbs all the way. The problem is, we aren't alone in the forest and there are a number of hungry wolves out there (I hear 'em growling sometimes). Even the location of the expositors of ideas is revealed unless degrees of separation are implemented. One day (possibly already within the government), all of these (or any) comments will be archivable and searchable by myriads of parameters. The present is being recorded, and will be accessible to the future as a past to be examined. Are we ready to stand up to that judgment? One says/does many things anonymously one wouldn't imagine in the light of day, because the glare of that Sun of Accountability is often too hot to handle. The problem is, can public scrutiny devolve into public tyranny?Could the Internet/WWW become a gussied up court reporter of human life, ready to redact our private dealings with others at the drop of a court order? Could we be enabling our own prosecution by leaving a trail of data to be used against us at a later date (internet records, cell-phone records, bank/billing records, ATM withdrawals, check/credit purchases, GPS locators, travel data, consumer marketing data)? How can we protect against this eventuality? If knowledge is power, who is benefitting from all of this information? Currently it may be select groups of humanity (certainly not all of humanity), but what if that select group becomes even more select?

What you say is exactly right. It IS as much an intellectual war as it is a military war. We should not concentrate on ending this war, or that war, though, but rather ending ALL wars. We need to Create a Terror of War. Make everyone afraid of what they SHOULD be afraid of and for. WAR, not their FREEDOM. The entire concept of War must end. Therefore, I declare a War of Terror on War. Make war so terrifying, no one will want to wage it. Attack every war on the planet, not to win it, but to end it. I'm open to suggestions.Toke.

Lol, your FBI file is probably being updated as we speak. Keep em' busy filing, I say. :)As for the War on Terror, expect a name-change sometime soon as the Global Elite's PR department surely recognizes its losing its fear-inducing quality amongst the general populace, being questioned by the educated litteratti, provoking ridicule across the globe, and is not entirely compatible with their Empire-building ethos. I think "The Long War," or something to that effect has been gaining favor in the halls of the Pentagon. Presumably, such a change would allow an open-ended American commitment to far-flung reaches of the world, while eliminating the soft restriction on fighting only presumed "terrorists." Such a move would echo the War Department's superficial change to the Department of Defense shortly after WWII, while maintaining the original purpose of the organization. George Orwell would not be surprised one iota, only disappointed that we let it happen. The only antidote to Doublethink is a strong dose of Semiotics (the study of language). If we are all armed equally, no advantage can be gained. Mutually assured destruction in the intellectual realm, so to speak.I figured my file could use some updating as well, lol. File away boys!

Turns out, they DID lie in order to get the judge to issue the no-knock warrant. This could be HUGE. If anyone sees or hears more on this, please let us know.

Thank you. I really want to stay involved and learn. I don't want to read how much hate comes from Republicans though so once I see a web site like that I don't go back. I want to know how people are feeling about Bush's war. I want so much to see the laws changed on marijuana but nothing can possibly be more important then this war and where it is headed. If it isn't stopped I'm not sure how long life as we know it now will be. I appreciate the links.

Colbert is a put-down of O'Reilly and.....
everything he does is based on Bills' intolerant character, and I hope you know Steven Colbert supports our cause, he uses old fashioned satire to skewer the repubs, and still, some have a hard time with British-style, Monty Pythonish parodies
of bush, FOX, etc.He isn't subtle, you just might have to be familiar with the subjects he's being sarcastic about, or you might not get the not-so-subtle jabs at bush and the Neo-con mentality.Ethan played the part perfectly, as Steven is just a foil to his guests. Everything he says is the opposite of what he means, and may be too sophisticated for some, which means stay up on the current topics in the news, and you'll know exactly what he is lampooning, as he wastes no time!

I have only been learning about Fascism and Communism in the last year or so because believe it or not I thought they were different words for the same thing. I love to learn about ancient history so I watch every program I find on one of the Discovery channels. When it comes to war other then the Vietnam War I don't know anything really. You said: The collective State supreme over the lonely individual, in that aspect Fascism and Communism are alike. It is interesting when you go to either extreme of the political spectrum (buying into that paradigm for a moment), similiarities often begin to arise between disparate ideologies.

re: Fascism
The merger of corporate/business interests with government over a system of private ownership has always spelled out fascism to me. But clearly, it is more than that. When Bush labels his countless enemies "Islamofascists", he is projecting his own biases and insulating himself from being accused of fascism in his own right. At the same time, he is totally misleading the American public as to the real fight that is being waged. The collective State supreme over the lonely individual, in that aspect Fascism and Communism are alike. It is interesting when you go to either extreme of the political spectrum (buying into that paradigm for a moment), similiarities often begin to arise between disparate ideologies. As for the bundles of sticks, or "fasces" denoting the strength of unity as opposed to the weakness of the individual acting alone, it is supposedly an ancient Roman symbol utilized by Italy's Mussolinni during his fascist dictatorship. But symbols are what we make them, just as the swastika was co-opted by the Nazis from many (peaceful?) Eastern religions, the "fasces" can be co-opted until it is associated with Rome or Mussolini, fascism or America, good or evil. What is important is actual behavior, not the window-dressing of symbols used to denote/identify certain behavior and often to mislead the people. The good ol' perception vs. reality battle. Why the American government/cultures fascination/worship of Rome? Do we really wish to aim for the barbarism of ages past as our ideal? When did this Rome-worship begin and why has it continued in American culture? I have some thoughts on that, but so what.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascism

Just a Note
After last nights news about Iraq and now Iran I realized nothing will stop Bush from his goal. The war will paralyze most forward movement of any cause including marijuana reform. We might have to stand or sit and wait for a while but we've have been doing that for a long time now. If the draft is brought back because no one will sign up no matter how much money is offered that will happen soon. Hang in there because that is what we are doing. I never thought that I would be glad that I am older then 42.

Beware
A group of Democrats calling their agenda WWW for Win Without War, are no different from the Neocons and Neoliberals who embrace (while denying) Corporatism, and would be content with the destruction of our Constitution and full implementation of this so-called Corporatism. This warning was given to me by a Government Professor. He is investigating that article from the Unification preacher in Texas, also. I'll let you know what he says. He seems to already disagree with what the preacher says about the symbols being Fascist in origin, other than the similarities of the bound bundles. No eagle on Hitler's. He calls those in power in Washington now Capitalists, and says they object to Fascism. I'm waiting for the full explanation so I can share. I'm not real clear on the difference between Capitalists and Fascists. Clearly neither are for the individual American, but both embrace Corporatism.Toke.

Well I just finished watching captain dipshit's address on the news. I remember in 2002 when my roommate and I were watching the state of the union address, and he called out the 'Axis of Evil'. And our jaws just dropped to the floor, we thought 'What is with this guy? He's gonna get us all killed.'I got that exact same feeling again tonight because, yes, yet again, he calls out Iran. Someone REALLY needs to put a muzzle on this sonofabitch. But one encouraging note: as soon as it was finished, and they tuned into the WH correspondent, there were protesters marching in front of the White House before he was even finished. I really hope this is a sign that his days are numbered. I don't think I've ever been more ashamed of being an American than I am tonight, and it's all because of HIS stupid ass.

Will this work for now?
Bush's Escalation Provokes Constitutional Crisis - and Progressive MobilizationShowing his utter contempt for the will of the American people, George Bush is moving ahead with his plan to escalate the War in Iraq by 20,000 troops, starting by January 31.Senator Ted Kennedy is drawing a line in the sand by introducing a bill to require Congress to approve Bush's escalation. But Bush is making it clear he would defy Congress - just as he has defied the American people.Just as we predicted, Bush is provoking a "Constitutional Crisis" - which will force Democrats to put impeachment back "on the table" sooner rather than later.Be sure to sign our impeachment petitions:

Just a Thought
I am watching the news today trying to learn something. Something that will help me to see why we need to send more troops. If we honor what the people of Iraq want we would remove our troops. It's a fight they want to deal with themselves and that's why it's a civil war. It's been 5 years since 9/11 and I can't help but wonder where we will be in 5 more years. Actually it's a worrisome thought.

We should issue a Re-Declaration of Independence, stating the very real grievances we have against our failed leaders and governments - much like the original did. In fact the original, if read again in the light of today's political crimes and misdemeanors bears an uncanny resemblance to contemporary reality, even to the point of King George.

and on it goes
I suggest the people create, sign and submit a petition stating that we want to hold a peoples constitutional convention.I believe a facsimile could be done online, so that people could see how it could be done, and the politicians be made to bow before the people, instead of the other way around, which is the way it is right now.We are either a peoples government, or we aren't. We are either a 'free society' with rights and priviledges which makes our country great, or we aren't. Facts reveal that we aren't, yet the s/elected leaders claim it in every speech they make. Speaking of how wonderful Pelosi is
...does the following scare anyone else here besides me?(from http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/january2007/100107democratsbeef.htm )House Democrats have passed a piece of legislation that was crafted on the back of recommendations made by the 9/11 Commission in their 2004 final report. The bill is a tonic for big government, increased federalization of America, and mandates expansion of no fly lists, terror watch lists and further government surveillance of American citizens. While the HR 1 bill contains some welcome provisions, including a redress of grievance process for passengers unfairly delayed or refused boarding for flights and a re-commitment to the Geneva conventions, it's largely a nightmare for opponents of big government in that it vastly increases funding and scope for Homeland Security, FEMA and further federalizes law enforcement. The legislation takes its cue directly from the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission report, which has been widely debunked by researchers and whistleblowers as a self-appointed whitewash that was harnessed to bury important questions about the impossibility of the official story behind 9/11. Hyping the threat of terror beyond its reasonable capacity, ignoring the reality that peanut allergies and lightning strikes kill more Americans than terrorists, Commission leaders Kean and Hamilton encouraged a broad range of measures that only accelerate the authoritarian surge towards a police state in America. They include:- Homeland Security identity checkpoints on American roads and highways;- Mandated biometric iris and finger scanning systems for all Americans at airports;- Creation of a biometric national ID card for all American citizens;- Expansion of "no-fly" and "watch lists" to prevent more Americans from traveling (even though such lists have been ridiculed time and time again for flagging completely innocent people including Senators and children);- Increased special screening of all passengers at airports (greasing the skids for invasive body scanners that capture a naked image of the passenger to be implemented as standard);- Federal takeover of publicly owned communication systems such as radio;- Increased government surveillance of Americans' financial records and activities;- Domesticating the CIA to watch American citizens;- Government wide sharing of information and centralization of databases containing information about American citizens. All of these recommendations were embraced by the 9/11 Commission and many of them are contained within the bill introduced by the Democrats that has already passed the House. ==============================I don't know about you guys, but I'm less than thrilled about the "new democratic leadership" if what it is doing is setting us up in a police state where you can't even drive down the highway without likely being stopped in a "Homeland Security identity checkpoint" and where you have "increased government surveillance" of your financial records and activities!! I don't know how the vision of that kind of thing in America makes you all feel, but it makes me feel like living in a different place far, far away!

I don't think he is as bad as Hitler but his whole administration is so much like what I read about in the link from David Crosby's web site and it's scary.

Not a fan of Bush...
But he is not as bad as Hitler. Yup, I said it. It feels kinda good to call him Hitler, but I'm thinking nah.George Bush has done plenty that can/should be held against him without invoking Hitler's memory/legacy.

I was just thinking about if I had a son that was going off to war and I knew he was going to Iraq, and would become a sitting duck, how I'd feel right now. They got Hussein and it's all over so bring our troops home and let Iraq develop it's own government because that is what a democracy should allow. No matter what it will be a blood bath because this war between Iraqis has gone on for centuries.

San Francisco is a Gemini City, so......
Your 'schizo' city description is fitting for a city ruled by the sign of Gemini, where 'both' sides of life are on display!Protest bushes' 'certain death' sentence for our troops on Thursday after he announces the 'plus up', a ridiculous term a useless, political move, from a ridiculous idiot-in-chief, who has exposed America as having an enemy from within take over our government, just like the al queda
you are constantly warned about. Bush works for Osama, if anything, the agenda of Al queda IS bushes agenda, women in burkas, rampant violence and death squads, let's call 'em as we see 'em, and bush IS the most 'Hitler-like' personality we've experienced since Pol Pot, way worse than Saddam, who didn't kill 650,000 Iraqis', WE DID! And we are supposed to be proud of this?Bush and Cheney deserve the same treatment, and since the staged lynching of Saddam has been condemned world-wide, even by bush-licker Tony Blair, perhaps the same fate awaits the bush cabal. How could it NOT?The world fears the continued Nazi-fication of 'Merica, and rightly so, and I welcome all who DON'T live in 'Merica, to take action now, or you will see 'Merica ready to attack YOUR country 'for NO reason', (like our attack on Africa yesterday, inSomalia, illegally attacked by us, you can't keep up with these murderers can you)!A Nationwide Surge of Protest
Of The US Military Occupation of IraqPresident Bush is expected to reveal his "new strategy” for Iraq on Wednesday January 10th. Defying the mandate of Americans who voted in November to end the madness and begin to bring our troops home, he will call for an escalation in the number of US combat troops in Iraq.Let's deliver an immediate and direct response to the president’s call for escalation: NO!Volunteers will host actions in cities and towns across the country within 24 hours of the president’s speech with a simple message: "America says NO more troops in Iraq!” http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/truemajority/event/distributedEventSearch.jsp?distributed_event_KEY=242&tag=buzzflashHey FOM, remember my comparisons of bush to Hitler, and you kinda disagreed, well, look who's on my side! Will you reconsider after another 5-10,000 troops come home dead, and even more than 650,000 Iraqis' have been killed? And more on the way, who thinks they're Hitler? Bush does, he LIKES the comparison, and is known to have the largest collection of Hitler Memorabilia in existence. Go figure!Former Reagan aide compares Bush to Hitler
An economist who once served as President Reagan's Assistant Secretary of the Treasury compares President George W. Bush to Adolf Hitler in a column at the libertarian website Anti-war.com."Bush is like Hitler," Paul Craig Roberts writes in a column entitled The Surge: Political Cover or Escalation?. "He blames defeats on his military commanders, not on his own insane policy.""Like Hitler, he protects himself from reality with delusion," Roberts continues. "In his last hours, Hitler was ordering non-existent German armies to drive the Russians from Berlin."http://www.rawstory.com/news/2007/Former_Reagan_aide_compares_Bush_to_0109.html

FoM, I agree, Bush is addicted to war, but....
Congress can stop being his enabler. It's time for an intervention. No more allowance, sonny boy.I hope and pray they will cut the funding for his expansion. And I see no reason why they couldn't do a gradual de-funding of the whole war to force a gradual withdrawal.I think it's imperative that we believe all the warmongers can be stopped, because our thoughts are powerful things.Though it may seem futile, the only solution to hate is love, and we must pray for enlightenment.I think Lennon was right. We have to imagine peace to gain peace.

None of this is right. It's all wrong. Marijuana shouldn't be an issue at all anymore. Our world is way to complicated to continue to chase marijuana. It just doesn't warrant the attention.

CA prison overcrowding
Governor S. was featured on NPR this morning talking about his agenda for the year and prison overcrowding and the building of more prisons in California was mentioned.I wonder who was released to make room for a 60 year old grandmother who was growing herbs? Maybe a murderer was released? Maybe a rapist was released? Maybe a child molester was released? We all read about it everyday. Some case of murder or child abduction arises and the story often includes that the perpetrator was a recent prison release and violent criminal. They are released to make room for people like 60 year old grandmother Stephanie Landa, who was growing plants for very ill, state approved patients.

3 years?
The previous articles say she has 41 months. That's 3 years and 5 months.
I wouldn't brush off 5 months in federal prison!
Sure puts it closer to the 5 years served by a murderer, as mentioned in comment #2. And this, after she consulted with law enforcement officials on setting up the site! What a travesty of justice.

I wish that Nancy Pelosi could stop Bush's war but no one can stop him. He has a war brain set and we are stuck with him unfortunately. Even if he would get Impeached we'd get Cheney. That sends a chill down my spine just the thought. When the laws on a Federal level get changed on marijuana then people will know what they can do or can't do.

My preceding posts had nothing to do with...
Nancy Pelosi. The honorable Speaker was the furtherest thing from my mind.I have nothing against Nancy Pelosi.I hope she stops the war.I hope she frees Stephanie Landa by pushing federal legislation to respect state medical marijuana laws.I won't be surprised if she doesn't, but not because of where she's from or what brand of genitals she has.

I agree. I really like Nancy Pelosi. I am proud that she is in the position she is in. Since I am a woman it does my heart good to see a powerful but polite women in charge. I haven't seen any women in a powerful position that has impressed me except Nancy Pelosi.

Doesn't sound much like Suffragette City, either.
Maybe Schizo City?Dan White served 5 years in prison for killing Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk.Stephanie Landa gets 3 years for gardening, with the city and state's permission, a plant enthusiastically grown by the Father of Our Country.
